First of all, thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Crawl Tournament, and special thanks to greensnark, Onia, and eredien for all of their help with tournament logistics and prizes. We had more than 700 players this year — edging up on NetHack tournament territory!

Our first place prize, a custom-skinned 9″ Asus eee netbook, goes to 78291, who scored over 4000 individual points in our tournament scoring system. Close behind him was mikee, with 3879; until an unfortunate drowning death near the end of the month, it was pretty much neck and neck. 78291 also scored the fastest real-time win (2:21:28), the top score (a 50K turn all-runer DDCK), the first victory of the tournament (a sub 3-hour SpCK of Lugonu), a decaying rune fetched at XL 8, the two wins with the fewest kills, and a streak of seven consecutive wins.  Basically what we’re saying here is: Stabwound, watch out.

78291 hardly took all of the prizes, though. For one thing, 78291′s team, cabal, came in second place to team FirstName, with five of its six players in the top ten for the tournament.

rob managed a 16029-turn win with a DDBe on the second to last day of the tournament, edging out elliptic’s 19043-turn DDCK win.

mikee took the first all-rune win, fifteen hours into the tournament, with another DDCK.

elliptic had an eight-game streak: DSBe, MiFi, DDNe, MfCr, HOPr, HEAE, SpEn, MDAr.

Only one player, trucutru, managed to leave a Ziggurat on Z:27 all month – so clearly we need to reward that more next year. :)

Ealbright took the most race/class combo high scores with 23, in a very tight race that went right down to the wire. The Bay12Dwarfs team got the most as a team, at 63.

No one got an XL:1 character to D:27 this year; dpeg came the closest at D:23.

What about all those special achievements? Well, the hardest to get was “Xom Prefers A Heretic,” which required mollifying every god over the course of the month. I say hardest not just because it was hard, but because due to a bug where Nemelex could not be mollified, it was impossible. :) Both 78291 and Heteroy would have done it if it weren’t for the bug, though, so they get full credit.

Four players succeeded in getting the “Free Will” award, starting with an elementalist and mastering the opposite elemental skill. Those players were 78291, heteroy, jenius, and trucutru.

Eighteen players managed to kill Sigmund 27 or more times during the month: chog, eabright, grimm, heteroy, jenius, johan, jokeserver, kilobyte, maddasher, mafalda, nmf, phyphor, sorbius, stormfox, tgw, vizr, zenzei, ziropiro. They were awarded “The Scythe.” Sigmund himself had 1140 kills.

Surprising me, only eight players achieved “The Pantheon,” selecting every god not as a starting god during the tournament: 78291, dartanion, eli, heteroy, keolah, mikee, sorbius, and stossel.

Note: Repost of rax’s posting to r.g.r.m. See you all next year again!
