Hi, crawlers! Welcome – to the first changelog of 2017!
- Evocations:
- Rods of scattershot & rods of clouds have both been turned into rare, high-power wand types. Wands of Clouds, unlike their rod predecessors, always create harmful clouds.
- Discs of storms have been replaced with lightning rods, a new xp-charged misc evocable with a remarkable resemblance to the old ‘lightning’ type of rod.
- Wand power scales significantly better with Evocations skill.
- Some wands have sub-LOS range.
- Wands cannot be evoked while confused.
- Wands of disintegration no longer destroy terrain; wands of digging can now destroy statues.
- Wands of slowing have, belatedly, followed their hasting friends into oblivion; they’re gone.
- Rods have been removed.
- New race: Barachians, a species of frog-men with a great hatred of the letter t. They have a powerful innate Hop ability, a partially-controllable Blink effect that requires several turns of motionlessness to recover before re-use. To balance this, they also have slow movement 1 (1.2 turns/move; nagas move at 1.4) and ghoul-tier attributes.
- New spell: Poisonous Vapours, L2 Poison/Air. Smite-targeted; creates an extremely short-lived poison cloud on a targeted creature. Appears in the VM starting book.
- Removed: Poisonous Cloud.
- Apportation scales more significantly with spellpower. Its targeter is also hopefully a little better.
- Your current regeneration rate is shown in %.
- Deep dwarves can now benefit from the special effects of Kryia’s armour.
- The displayed resistance chance for Siren/Avatar song is shown correctly in monster descriptions; it formerly miscalculated (underestimated) their power.
- Clearing multiple ziggurats will make the figurines you find within glow in new and exciting colours. Note that clearing multiple ziggurats is, quote, “silly and should not be encouraged”.
- In addition to summoning golden dragons (see trunk update post #219, true believers!), fortunate TSO worshippers can also use poison stingers.
- Iron giants can no longer throw your orbs of destruction back at you. (It didn’t work properly anyway.)
- It’s no longer possible to ?acquire an item directly into lava or deep water. Sploosh no more…
- Cerebov scumming has been removed.
- Wizards can now rest inside walls.
- Sandblast blasts sand.
Happy crawling, and happy new year, and if you haven’t yet taken the survey, hey! What better time for a fresh start (on taking the survey) than now?)

The removal of haste and healing wands is a game altering change to the 15 rune ability of most race/class combos. Now there are a specific set of deities and race/class combos that give 15 rune runs a decent success chance. Everything else has a very low chance of surviving a 15 rune run (not impossible, just risky to the point of making the attempt be a foolish). Thus, this change has limited the playability of the extended end game thereby once again removing content from the game and replacing it with silly niche items.

Cerebov scumming – What was that?
I’m fine with these changes as usual. But you still need to fix Orges MF apt.
Thanks for the work!

If you steal Cerebov’s rune without killing him, he, like other pan lords, periodically re-appears throughout Pan and on the orb run. If you have some source of disarming – the Captain’s Cutlass or Jiyva’s tendrils mutation – you could take his unique sword, and he’d reappear with a fresh one every time he spawned.
This was almost entirely useless.

If completely reversing the reduction in Og M&F aptitude is out of the question, what about returning the M&F skill required for min delay on GC and GSC back to 20 and 22? I assume it was originally increased because it took too little exp investment for Og to reach min delay and it was a no-brainer to wield them. … presently I’d always use a lajatang instead of I weren’t using a shield.

Wait, what? As far as I remember, I always reached min delay with GC at 18 m&f.

Oh, good news. For me this armour now works properly.

Armor items (gloves, boots, cloak, helms) are now too rare. Several years ago it was agreed that such items were too common. Back then it was possible to assemble a complete set of +0 armor items nearly every time before even getting to DL3. But we’ve swung too far in the opposite direction now. In some recent games, I reach D8-10 without locating even a single armour item. Often I have completed an entire rune branch without having +0 versions of boots/gloves/helm. Could we try a more intermediate setting of whatever variable was changed? Thank you.

Still no increase in Ogre mace apts, even though that update had more comments than any other big recent update. The negative comments were pretty strong, the positive ones have been more akin to “Eh, it’s ok”. But I’m sure you know better.
>removes HE because they’re boring
