0.14 Development Planning

This page is for managing short and middle term development planning.
Features on this page are considered major or significant improvements. General bugfixing does not need to go here although major bugs could end up in a “tasks for completion” section once we near a release.
Features are divided into sections based on their stage of completion or planning.
Each feature should have the names of any devs who are actively working on, planning, or responsible for the feature and who realistically think they'll be able to finish it in time for the release date.

General todo

This is a list of tasks that generally need to be completed for any release to happen.

  • Release schedule : We're aiming for a couple of days before the 0.14 Tournament starting on 2014-04-11.
  • Mac nightlies
  • Mantis administration - closing and/or fixing hundreds of old bugs and FRs

Tasks for completion

  • Major branch decisions / landing for balancing
    • halftone (dpeg, |amethyst, Grunt) - piety tweaks can probably land (done); XP/piety-on-sight would need significantly further balancing (if it ends up on Dith at all)
    • summons_adjustments (DracoOmega) - landed
    • deterministic_poison (DracoOmega) - landed
  • Content balancing
    • Lair branch enemies (DracoOmega) - promised changes have landed
    • Dithmenos (Grunt) - piety gain (adjusted; need to see how it works in practice), shadow mimic (physical attack bugs fixed; check balance)
    • Deterministic poison (DracoOmega, elliptic) - adjustments have been made - verify that they're in decent shape
  • Vaults backlog (Grunt, HangedMan) - mostly done; needs forest vault dispersal
  • Tiles
    • Enemies (cf. #8097) - mostly need grand avatar
    • Content in major branches (mainly summons_adjustments) - needs spellforged servitor (roctavian), new mana viper tile (see above) - done
  • Traps removal: remove random mechanical traps, remove Traps skill, consider trap detection, review traps in vaults (damage traps gone from outside Ossuary/Tomb/Zot:5), (new magical traps?)
  • Poison status revamp (https://crawl.develz.org/tavern/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9856) - cf. deterministic_poison

Testing and feedback

These are features which have been implemented in some fashion and are in trunk builds for testing / feedback / polishing. They are likely to be included in the 0.14 release if they are ready by that stage.

  • Formicids [Dwants] (pubby), Vine Stalkers (dck/Basil)
  • Vault improvement and review (HangedMan, st_, others) (ongoing)
  • Abyss improvements: layout generators, difficulty scaling (based on Abyss depth, depth of banishment, deliberate entry, etc.), depths of new monsters
    • Reduce demonic presence and balance out placing any floor's spawns per floor (currently excessively indiscriminate and common)
  • Automagic functionality
  • Jump effect (gammafunk)
  • Summoning adjustments (DracoOmega) - including old ideas of mechanics tweaks, review/balance numeric caps, rework/improve existing spells in light of caps, new spells to add more depth, improve following on stairs
  • Rods rework (Grunt)
  • Wrath reform (Grunt)
  • Clouds nerf (Grunt)


I have significantly overhauled this page to be better organised and remove a lot of old junk. I have probably missed several relevant projects and assigned the wrong names to some. Please correct or amend anything I've got wrong. — mumra 2013-06-19 17:55
