Is this a problem? Neutral monsters aren't peaceful, and may attack you if you get in the way. With Maurice, there is the issue that he might steal an item of yours and leave the level, causing it to vanish, but again, I'm not positive that is a problem. Perhaps he could be made to drop it at the stairs if people really care, but I certainly don't think his theft attack should be disabled entirely. |

I'd say theft is consistent with trying to kill you. BUT, trying to kill you is not consistent with accepting an offer of peace. And I agree with bh that the result sucks. |

How about making Ely-pacified monsters displace the player and other monsters, as opposed to attacking them? This removes this particular weirdness, and also removes the very unbecoming technique of pacifying one monster in a group and watching him murder/get murdered by his (former) friends. The fact that the monsters can displace creatures also stops the "pacify rat in front of hydra" escape strategy. |

> the "pacify rat in front of hydra" escape strategy. That doesn't sound like a hugely effective strategy. Requests to change pacified monster behaviour have come up before, see 0006716. I'm not sure what the answer is. But if definitely seems reasonable that Maurice shouldn't steal things from you in this case, since you don't have a way of getting them back. |
