Stealing combo scores is one of the most competitive and interactive aspects of tournaments, as it normalizes for game scoring over-emphasizing the arbitrary Orb goal. Please re-integrate that into tournament scoring.

I’m not sure I understand your comment? One entire scoring category called Combo High Scores is devoted to awarding points for getting combo high scores, with winning games if possible, and large bonuses for species and background high scores.

Is it possible to achieve the Piety reward with Ignis? I thought that Cinder Acolytes start at *****, but Piety award requires ******.

oops, never mind. I see the explanation in plain sight now. :)

I think in the past the combo high score category awarded points for beating someone else’s high score with a combo. That should still happen as it adds strategy to the comobs one plays, and it should be worth far more than the arbitrary goal of escaping with the orb.
Thanks for responding in any case.

That has never been the case.
In both old scoring (pre 0.25) and current scoring the reward for stealing a combo high score is the old high score holder loses the points and you gain them (including stealing species and background bonus points).
The Dithmenos banner is for stealing a combo high score (with higher tiers for higher steals), and is in this tournament as well.

I think banners has been the “reward” for stealing combo scores since way back. Once it was called the “Sniper” and was a Trog banner, but since many tournaments it has been the “Politician” by Dithmenos.
Maybe you are confusing getting combo high scores (for points) with combo high score stealing (for the banners), or maybe I am confused!
There is a meta-strategy to it of course, when you steal a combo HS, you get points for having that combo HS, and the former combo HS player loses the points it had preliminarily received for having it. And this extends to clan scoring for combo HS.

“the arbitrary goal of escaping with the orb”, as opposed to the totally not arbitrary goal of beating someone’s d:6 vpae score… LOL

Why there is no banner for Ignis? :(

Couldn’t come up with a good thematic one in time. Sorry! We’ll try to get one for 0.29

Very well, my main point is that taking out a SpBe XL20 high score is far more difficult than surmounting a MiBe win. Therefore, awarding nine times the points for the latter is ridiculous. Too late for this tourney, but maybe next time around?

and since some apparently don’t get it, yes any goal within the game is arbitrary, but the effort and skill required to achieve a given goal is only comparable within a particular combo.
