Wasn't that partly the point of removal? Players usually have scrolls/potions so it's redundant to have other consumables which just duplicate those effects, especially since those consumables were easily renewable and steered players towards acquiring wands more than anything else. If the lack of healing/teleportation becomes truly unbalancing, one can simply increase generation of potions and scrolls, but either way it's much "cleaner" to not have multiple sources of the same effect.
