Species Idea

I thought it would be cool to have a race named like Djinn... Efreet... or Fire Elemental... or something? Here's my idea:

- Extremely resistant/Immune to fire damage.
- Vulnerable to cold.
- Can walk through fire like nothing, and through lava like it's shallow water.
- Shallow water damages them like lava would to another species.
- Their unarmed combat is fire branded.
- They'd have high fire magic and conjurations aptitudes.
- Not able to use scrolls.
- Not able use equipment that isn't branded/randart. ("The item melts to liquid in your hands/as you place it on your body" or something?)

How do you like it? I'm not giving specifics because I feel like if you guys think it's a good idea, there are pro's that would be able to flush out the specifics better then I could.

(UPDATE: I know I said I wouldn't flush the species out, and doing this whole 'balancing thing" is not exactly my forte, but here is the basic idea for what I was going for)

Str 3, Int 11, Dex 7

- Get an Intelligence or Dexterity (equal chance) increase every 3 levels starting at level 3.

6 magic resistance per level.

HP-1, MP+3, Exp 130,

Arm 0, Ddg+1, Sth -1, Stb -1, Shd -2, T&D 0, Inv 0, Evo 0,

Fgt +2, SBl 0, LBl 0, M&F-1, Axs-1, Pla 0, Stv 0, UC -2, Thr 0, Slg-1, Bws-1, Crb-1,

Spc-2, Coj+1, Hex-2, Cha-3, Sum-2, Nec -3, Trl-2, Trm-3, Fir+4, Ice-4, Air+1, Ear-2, Poi-3


Note: I actually got this idea after watching Adventure Time, and seeing the character Flame Princess, lol. I didn't model every decision around that, but that was the original concept.

Yeah there are some similarities there, and some of those comments are useful, but still a lot that makes this different. Any feedback on this species?

Yah, I guess I can see that, I added some funk just now that makes them quite a bit different from those.

These are the only significant differences I see between your proposal and djinn/lava orcs. imo you should just submit these ideas to the djinn page.

Also note that lava orcs are largely implemented already and might actually be merged at some point so any new species proposals should really try to distance themselves from those mechanics.

Yeah, I see what your saying. You could switch the element to ice, and call them like Ice Elementals or something to keep them thematically different:

- Extremely resistant/Immune to ice damage.

- They'd have high ice magic and conjurations aptitudes.
- Not able to use scrolls. (Maybe not even potions either if they're ice.)
- Not able use equipment that isn't branded/randart. ("The item freezes and shatters in your hands/as you place it on your body" or something?)
-Maybe can swim in deep water?

If you have a look around most species ideas get shot down pretty quickly unless they have very unique abilities/backstory. Even so, I've yet to see (in quite a few years on the forums - correct me if I'm wrong though) any specie proposal implemented which hasn't already had a prototype actually coded (vampires/octopodes both had ones made). If you really want this to be a reality I would invest some time making a really flavoursome and interesting backstory/mechanics and show *why* your species is important, and then probably invest in coding a rough prototype.

As far as your proposal goes, there have been a lot of proposals for elemental themed species (check the dev wiki) and secondly, elemental based species don't tend to be favoured as balance wise they can be tricky and they sort of fit too much into a 'ice/fire mage only' role.

i love the lava orc, or LO, or lorc. i sometime think, if she was alive today, and wrote the series now it would be called `lorc of the rings,` because they are great to talk and write a story about. and the sequel would be called `lorc of the rings and the squarelos`also there is a fourth book, the octopode. and the third book i didnt read because it is not translated in my language

Yeah, that's cool. I didn't know about Lava Orcs until after posting this thread. I'm toats excited for dat. :D

I feel like the game is missing a fiery species, but if that's going to be implemented, that's pretty much what I've been thematically craving.
