0.13

I've been away for a few days, and suddenly everything is upside down. What is this 0.13 version, where can I read about it? And also, why 0.13, when even the 0.12 version isn't official yet?

Before the release of a new version, it is "locked down" and tested. New features, spells, items, etc. are not added to it, just bug fixes. The best way to keep up on changes to non-release versions is to monitor the commit logs either on gitorious or on a local copy of the source using gitk.

0.12 is feature locked and in beta, so 0.13 is the new trunk build for new development.

Major changes in 0.13 off the top of my head are:
New class: jesters
Potions of gain-stat replaced by potions of beneficial mutation (vicissitude or something)
no more stabbing skill
kekekela is my in-game name

The skill. Stabbing in 0.13 will be based on a combination of weapon skill and stealth.

I'm like 99.9% sure jesters were just a joke for April Fools' on the public servers and the 0.1% doubt is only because I don't really participate in the Crawl community beyond making vaults and bad ideas

edit: though they are still in trunk, so perhaps it is me who is the April fool...

It's just like that time when a new major version of Dwarf Fortress was released on 1 April - so many people thought it was a joke and were a day late in getting in on the action.

Chaos Knights don't start with a +2 weapon anymore. Instead, they start with a +0 Chaos brand weapon. Which is pretty sweet if you're into that sort of thing.

Of course, since the code is in git, you can play jesters locally. Just pull the right revision and build it yourself.
