The main problem with CrawlWiki is that it has very few active editors and most of them don't fact check before posting. Crawl's rapid updates also makes keeping the wiki up-to-date very difficult. Snake Pit - No treasure vault.
Slime Pits - Has 4 treasure vaults on the bottom level. One of them has the rune.
Shoals - Has more loot in general than the Snake Pit and Swamp.
Swamp - Not much loot in general, which is part of the reason why most people dive for the rune.

Try a SpEn of Nemelex. Only sacrifice corpses for decks of summoning. The sheer cheesiness of that combo should get you an easy win. Mid-game: Explore the dungeon, until it feels too difficult. Then, explore the easier branches, except the bottom levels.

Without any fighting skill the endgame becomes terrifying, since every attack can instantly kill you. I managed to ascend a DEWz without training fighting or dodging, but it was quite nerve-racking.

I find the progression of Chei's two main abilities really nice - Slouch is cool when you get it and useful for a fair while, then it sort of degrades in usefulness just around the time that Step From Time becomes a) reliable and b) important. Players tend to only remember the worst things that happen to them or exaggerate. IIRC banishment only happens 10% of the time. I once had to unwield a distortion weapon several times in a row for it to banish me in Pan.

1. Monsters respawn slowly. Lingering too long on a level causes tougher monsters to spawn, until monsters eventually stop spawning.

It's been awhile, since I won with Lugonu. I used Corruption in branch ends to make it easier to steal a rune. A distortion weapon was useful for getting monsters out of my way. And I used blink for victory dancing.

When I went downstairs an altar of Lugonu appeared out of nowhere with a manual of spellcasting. Apparently, Lugonu was trying to tempt my Trog worshiper to switch. Too bad my dwarf was killed shortly afterwards by a wand of paralysis.

Statue form is pretty awesome with haste, swiftness, and flight (along with other buffs). It's definitely more powerful than blade hands. My statue form-user cleared Zot:5 without taking much damage, since everything died in 2 hits (without any slaying or strength boosts).

Mahkleb is the most useful god for a DDNe. You get free healing and can summon powerful demons. Kiku gives necromancy books and a pain-branded broad axe is extremely powerful in a 3-rune game. Or you can get the Necromonicon and learn Haunt.

For a 15-rune game with a transmuter I usually stay in lich form, unless I'm fighting a demon lord or any monster with dispel. Then, I'd switch to blade hands.

The lantern also shrinks your LOS. I don't use it often. It's useful for surviving in the Abyss. I once used it in Zot:5, but I prefer fog scrolls.

Chei is useful for casting in heavy armor and spamming slouch. I played it because it's a weird combo. I thought to myself, "Deep dwarves don't heal and Chei makes you slow.. sounds like fun!"

Fast and sneaky. I just dive down to Zot:5 and teleport randomly, until I land near the Orb. Then, I kill the guardians in my way and grab the Orb. I sometimes do it the slow way (kill everything), but I think it's boring.

(Fe/MD/Mi)Be, MiGl, and HEWz. CeBe is also surprisingly easy. Pretty much any combo that can survive D:1&2 with no problems has a high chance of winning if played well.
