However, the 9.9% of the time were you get abyssed is much more memorable than the 55.5% where a kobold just does some extra damage.

As far as gifting armour goes, I think it'd be OK simply because the only things gods gift right now are spells, weapons, and decks. Armour gifts won't step on anyone's toes.
For names, we have:
H
I
P
R
U
W
open right now.
Rundival perhaps?

Create altar should be usable a limited amount of times per level, to stop players from making altars everywhere.
Also, you should be able to mark yourself or create a large amount of noise in order to call monsters to the altar and avoid having to walk over there to kite them back to the altar.

Here's an idea for a mutation.
Stiff Skin: +2 ac, -3 dex. It's got a bonus, but it also hits you with stat loss greater than the stat loss mutation, and it gives a lot less AC than thick black scales. (A second level would probably be +3 or 4 ac, -5 dex)

Here's an idea with ranged stabbing: the bonus damage is dependent on range.
If you shoot someone from melee range, it's equivalent to stabbing them with a dagger.
If you shoot someone from the edge of los, it's equivalent to stabbing them with a club.
