Summary 0006245: Non-ASCII characters missing over ssh?
Description - Create a Priest
- Open the abilities list
- View the description for "Recite"
- Observe the section "Book of Abominations"

There is excessive whitespace in "the very thing most abhorrent to
Zin chaos in all its forms."

It should read "[...] Zin - chaos", or "Zin: chaos".

There is an em dash ("—") there; perhaps it is missing from your font, or you are using a terminal without unicode support?

Seems like SSH is the problem since I can see the dash when I play locally, but not when I play on CDO with the same terminal and font.

Is an em dash really necessary? do we really gain something by using — over -?

Cryptic: The em dash doesn't give us anything, no. But if it doesn't work, translations won't work either, and accented characters in quotes/etc will break. Plus, the default glyph set uses non-ASCII since 0.8, so you'd need non-default configuration.

xyblor: what platform are you on? Is that Windows, per chance?

I couldn't see the em dash on linux with urxvt over ssh.

However, I just tested now, and I CAN see the em dash with puTTY on Windows.

So I guess the problem is not SSH per se, but rather certain terminals over SSH.
