I made the current escape hatch, and it's indeed pretty bad. The idea is that's it's held to the ceiling with chains and the chains pull it up (and close it) when it's used.
Anyway, the new escape hatch looks much nicer, and has enough of a "single use" feel to make sense. Nice work!

These are great. The entrance is especially cool.
I do kind of dislike the strange double-thick outlining on the yellow > stairs (not something you added - they've always had it, and it's always looked odd). Maybe you could change it? |

The entrance is so much better than we have now, but I see one problem: it's not clear that it is a flight of stairs rather than a portal. The new one is likely to confuse people into thinking it's some portal vault -- or rather, that portal vaults are some kind of exits, perhaps even exits out of the game.
I'm pondering, what if we merged the old and new tile somehow? |

KiloByte, yes, it is a bit of a problem. Also description says that there is a stairs leading out of the dungeon, but we don't have them here. But I thought players will have enough time, wandering D1, to get used to it. And another arch portals will be much later. The problem with the stairs at the entrance is that they take too much tile space, which makes entrance itself too small. But I'll try to make some alternative. |

I think we should have a different tile for one-way branch exit stairs, you know, the ones that only lead up from a branch but when you come back you end up on a different stair.
Maybe a red version of the branch exit stair, since the escape hatches are also red and are also one-way. |

I'm wondering, can we use a tile more than 32x32 in game, which still be active on 32x32 square? I mean new stairy entrances. They can overlap squares up and down from it a little without much damage to its usability. Or it's too much trouble and I need to stay in 32x32?
I'll make one more attachment to show how it looks.
Also redid sandy stairs. First set can be deleted.

Tiles can technically be greater than 32x32, but I believe there are all sorts of problems with doing so -- the coding required is really messy, I think, specifically because the code assumes every tile is at most 32x32, and so neighboring tiles tend to get drawn over the large one. Anyway, that means that it is only done for very specific cases where the impact of a large tile is worth the hassle (i.e. the pan/hell lords).

Last one fits 32x32.
(It would be nice to have ability to delete attached files in your own report. Just to keep it neat.)

I know they are not required, but I decided to make some new stairs. Not to replace existing ones, but maybe to use somewhere else (not really sure where exactly). Anyway, here they are... |
