Summary 0005107: Passwall into confined space causes monster to vanish
Description If a mobile creature is on the destination square for Passwall but there is no place for it to go, it simply vanishes. The easiest place to see this is the human / zombie on the tgw_kikubaaqudgha overflow altar, but there are a few other vaults that have enemies packed in tightly (I ran into the same problem with onia_ninara_dug_in_and_dangerous.)

I don't know if this is the same issue as 2019, as this is specifically encountered with creatures that are otherwise capable of movement.

This is true of all attempts to cast Passwall targeting a square that contains a monster - the spell succeeds, and you Passwall into that square. The monster is displaced to an adjacent square unless there are no adjacent squares to displace it into. If that is the case, the monster is teleported at random.

This needs a more information-rich message, 'You displace the @foe@.', as well as a submission to the T.I.P. for Dungeon Crawl: https://crawl.develz.org/tavern/viewtopic.php?t=2100 [^] has details.

Well, the alternative would be to either forbid Passwalling into that square (which might leak information) or to cause the player to be stuck in the wall and die.

Sure, I thought of that. Otherwise I'd have suggested something simpler. But as it stands, a player will go, "Where's the monster..."

Another option is for the passwall to take extra turns and you end up back where you started with a message like, "You attempted to pass through the wall but something was in the way."
