The basic idea of a windy, swampy path into the branch entrance is good and present in this vault, but I think you need to improve the monster placement.
I'd recommend that you try diversifying the monsters you place, substituting 1-2 hydra for other notable yet weaker swamp monsters, possibly swamp worms, tyrant leeches, vampire mosquitos, or insubstantial wisps. You probably want to always place one hydra, but I would make each additional hydra placement more rare than the last, placing something less dangerous most of the time, and that could include monsters like komodo dragons or spiny frogs that place in lair and swamp. It's possible to use a monster like a swamp dragon or alligator, but you have to use them very sparingly since those are harder for players to escape without taking damage.
You can also randomize the placement using a glyph to cover floor tiles, using NSUBST to place the numbers of monsters you want, replacing the rest with floor. In the case of this vault, it looks like you could simply use the normal '.' glyph for that. If you want to conditionally place worms or other monsters in water, it's a little more complicated, but a SHUFFLE can help you there.
Since I'm not sure what you'd most like to do with the vault, I won't make specific edits for you, but let us know if you have particular changes in mind and need help making the DES to implement those changes. |
