The opportunity attacks radically change the tactics of melee. It's pretty common to encounter mobs prior to being able to confidently tackle them in melee (e.g. the first orc warrior in a game, cane toad). Optimal play (for me) now will be to pre-kite mobs rather than allow any contact.

The opportunity of attack changes feel miserable. It generally feels like the *only* means of escape is some consumable or ability. Running out of consumables is practically a death sentence.

These attacks of opportunity will take some getting used to. Just absentmindedly lost a gnoll to a ice beast

Ooh. Neat. I’m a moderately skilled player with a handful of wins. The attacks of opportunity are huge but I think good. So much of crawl is handling engagements well from the beginning, but running away while an enemy is chasing you is a crutch that newer players especially can use to cheese early encounters where many units are slower and melee only. Making running away by foot from bad situations should both encourage better play up front and open up more room for utility abilities.

I love no ammo, the new uniques are interesting, as are the starting kits tweaks.

But the 'opportunity of attack' changes are straight up awful. I'm hopeful that they'll get reverted as soon as enough people play and see what a lazy, heavy-handed fix they are to a problem that hardly even exists.
