After 5 minutes into the game, you are guaranteed to have a bunch of rc scrolls and be able to try on any item without any repercussion. You are still obligated to devote a slot in your inventory to hold rc scrolls though, because there are cursed items at all points in the game, but you won't even notice your number of scrolls going up and down because there are more rc scrolls than items that you even want to try on at some point in the game. Boring mechanic, no fun, good riddance!

Curses were FUN, they added to inpredictability of the game, just like the boots did, just make them more rare or something. Why the devil do you need to simplify stuff so much? With the way things go, I'm afraid Crawl will turn into another Diablo-type hack and slash with simplistic mechanics and all monsters and NPCs moving with the same speed so it's "BALANCED".

Hmmmm... curse never felt relevant for non-ash users once you got past the initial dungeons. Most of the time it was just an annoyance against checking to see if a new item was cool. But dealing with curses when you didn't have a stockpile of 9 remove curse scrolls ready to go was still interesting in the early game.

I would rather have just seen it reworked to be more salient at all points in the game. e.g. upon being cursed spawn a unique a couple floors down that removes all curses from you when killed, and remove all scrolls that you can stockpile ahead of time.

I have played Crawl since 0.9. The last version I played with any intensity was 0.13 and even then I felt many things were being removed.

This is ridiculous.

No one can say that I am not a fan of Crawl or roguelikes in general, I am very much the core audience for this game and have played it for many hours. The direction this game has taken is for the worse. Over the last few versions the changes have declined in quality and there is very clearly an attitude of "if this mechanic cannot be made to work with MY new content, it should be removed. :^)" and the people currently making these releases have ruined Crawl like late dynasty Egyptian rulers stripping the pyramids and trying to break into them to pawn off their treasures. They are the Britons making thatch and wattle huts in the ruins left behind by the Romans.

What differences in playthroughs or races or anything even exist now? The game has become so streamlined that there is a clearly delineated "you will face these threats at these depths and respond to them in this way if you are (ranged/caster/melee)" with nothing unique ever happening.

It makes me very sad to see Crawl in the state it is in today.
