Hexes/Fire Level 4

When killed, the enchanted enemy explodes, dealing about as much damage as its max hp. Caution, zombies are a tricky case.

I also proposed this effect for Vehumet prayer effect, and fire arrows which are currently a mere damage modifier. See Vehumet and on_existing_brands

This would be fun for Vehumet, but it's a fantastically weak spell, as there's very rarely reason for a conjurer to ever not use it. It's just mountains of free chained damage, and the explosions themselves would get old fast. e: is this a buff or a debuff — og17 2010-09-30 17:55
On the second thought, Enchantment/Conjuration doesn't make sense because someone who knows Conj can already blast stuff away. So Enchantment/Fire is more interesting. I was thinking more along the lines “enchant a monster and shoot it with a bow”. Summoners could also like the spell, because they could use a minion to detonate it. In general, Fire/Ench (or Fire/notConj) sounds better - wands, rods, or even melee with Makhleb. I'd rather compare it with damage brand spells than conjuration spells. — b0rsuk 2010-09-30 20:55
Been trying this spell out in the trunk. It hasn't been particularly useful but that may just been that I haven't really understood how to use it well. One thing I would say, however, is that having it bump out Conjure Flame from the Fire Elementalists initial spellbook isn't good for low to mid level players. Conjure flame is the only vaguely defensive spell fire elementalists get and its is primarily useful in the early game. Inner flame seems more useful later on when you start encountering more groups of enemies. You could certainly keep both in the starting book. — rosetintedglasses 2011-08-02 07:40
You know what I think would make Inner Flame a much more interesting spell is if it didn't alert monsters when cast. Or give it a chance to alert based on fire skill level or steath. This could allow sneaky mages to plant it much more easily and potentially set up chains of inner flamed monsters. Otherwise, I always tend to find it more cost effective just to throw a fireball. — rosetintedglasses 2012-01-19 06:15
What would make this REALLY useful is for it to have smite-targetting. I could then Portal Projectile my arrows/bolts/dagger into that annoying Orc Priest hiding behind three lines of Orcish troops and do some REAL damage. I really hate only being allowed to target the closest members of a mob, then have them get in my face and leave wondering whether to blow both them AND myself up or let them beat on me until Inner Flame safely runs out. 'Course that's just me… some people like Djinns and Hellions actually like being on fire… ;) — Andy 2013-01-28 18:52
