You may want to train some Dodging to improbe your defenses...

I'm not sure that Air/Hexes/Charms were already useful, but as DE have good apts it's not wasted

Charms is very useful - it is haste, swiftness repel/deflect missiles, battlesphere. I train it early mainly because of battlesphere.
Hexes is rather free and provide me with fulminant prism that is quite good for early game and it is for dealing with oklobs.
Air is for mephitic cloud, later it will be an extra spellpower for repel/deflect and swiftness.

Ok, this try is over now. I got smashed by the cyclope's club. I got 2 of 3 upstairs on D12 and went to D11 to check for the third. It got me to the arrow-shaped vault with dragon, 2 orc knights, 2 cyclopes, ogre and other minoor stuff:

After descending I got my health down from 62 to 10. I would not survive going up so I decided to try other options.
Generally this try was very insuccessfull in terms of escape options. Vampire on D8, no healing potions (1 unknown, but won't save me anyway), only 1 tele scroll and 2 blinking. Also 1 scroll of fear. I burned blink when I met Harold in my rC gear with zero fire resistance, tele went for vault where I suddenly got storm dragon and cyclope, fear was for bunch of centaurs with 2 bows of flaming (again in my rC gear).

I looked through all my spells, scrolls and potions 3 times and decided that there might be some loot in the other end of the arrow. So I read blink scroll to get from the crowd to the thin corridor. But I got a manticore on my way. There was no way to kill her fast so I lost my last hope and read scroll of fog. And got smashed with a 26-damage hit.

I'm gonna hold this topic up and post my further adventures with other DECjs of Vehumet.

Ok, I got my 2nd DECjup and running.
But things are not that smouth. Vehumet hates me, I think it is because of my 3-4 attempts on MuNe.
I decided to branch into Ice now because I got freezing cloud. I got 10 in Ice, 6 in Air. But my final gift contains: LCS, Shatter and Chain Lightning!
It is sad, but I wasted bolt of cold gift. It came too much early and I was somewhere about D13 and didn't know where to branch. If I got it now, I will be happy!
And what the hell, this game generated almost no books! I have to run with delayed fireball, IMB, freezing cloud and raise undead. Works well now, but as I descend into swamps, I feel lack of killing power. If i run into Mara on S:5 (and I think I will), It will be impassable. So I think I will skip it until later.
After S:4 I think I'll go do Orc in hope I will get book shop. If no, my next try will be Elf. It is quite safe until final vault and I could get useful books before it to be able to clear it.

Are you training necro in case of Necronomicon ?

would there be any use ?ID it and focus on getting it online ?

Yep, I think it is Necronomicon/ I got some skill in Necro because I choosed Ice magic. Now I have a nice buff to Sublimation of Blood, have 1% fail for Animate Dead and I plan on having Simulacrum for tough fights.
I have 2 questions:
1. Do I really need Necromutation?
2. Is Deaths Door a good escape option for a caster-blaster? Bot says that it is 16-25 turns of invulnerability, so If I have pretty castable Ice storm and some source of regaining mana (sublimation), it would end up in free 10+ Ice storms upon my foes. Sounds cool, but is it true?

EDIT: It could also be the Grand Grimoire, so I may end up with Mass Abj. only. That is not that bad.

Necromutation is never "really needed", DDoor is a better spell, and yes, it's very good, although it will be hard to get enough chunks for 10 storms (you can't sublimate your HP while with DDoor) in late game without Kiku.

Ok, my 2nd conjurer is dead. Wiglaf killed him with a battleaxe. Frankly speaking, I was a bit bored with this char because of lack of firepower. I should do Orc and Elf 1-2, and I may find good books there (or a shop), but I decided to clear S1-4 first. Wiglaf must be dead and I tried to kill it with my poor IMB and freezing cloud. That was not enough.

So I decided that my next DECj will be fire mage. And I found a book of wizardry with fireball! This time I think I should hit 15 in Fire and have 0 in earth/air/ice before final gift to be sure that Vehumet will give me firestorm. And I didn't played a MuNe! Haste from the book is good too! Used it while descending 4 times. Helped me to demolish 2 packs of yaks in Lair:2 - they showed up from the 2 directions when I descended.

I started as usual - Spellcasting to 5-6, then Conj to 5-7, but the common course was interrupted by the message of rusting drainage on D3. I was lack of firepower and the only way to deal with sewers was to learn battlesphere and turn charms on! With +4 apt I got Charms: 3 to the point where I found sewer entrance. It was something like 18% failure on battlesphere, but since i can cast it before battle it is enough.
I got S-like sewers with lots of scrolls and potions and that was quite good! I had 9 ?ID on D7 or D8.
D9 welcomed me with 5 shops: crappy weapons, food, ?s, crappy jewellery (bought nothing for IDing because of lack of money) and !s. I bought about 2/3 of !shop to ID it and got 3 ?ID from ?shop that let me identify most potions I had to that point.
D9 was plenty with features. Besides of 5 shops there were altar, lair and orc. I do Lair first. Now on Lair:3, found a snake pit (hurray! I hate spider!).

Got a highlevel book. Conj 10 showed that it is not Annihilator. Fck! In my last game it was Grand Grimore. I hope for Necronomicon this time.

EDIT:
1 more question about spells.
I plan on getting Dig spell, sooner or later. My Spellcasting and Int will be enough to cast it, even with 0 in Earth. But I am thinking about the way to deal with stronger walls than rock ones. Now I can learn LRD. IIRC it is earth/conj, so it is much more preferable to earth-only shatter since with 27Spelcasting and 20Conj, 30 in int and a staff of earth I will have ~100 spellpower that will let me demolish metal walls.
Is there really any place in the game where I should have something above common Dig, except for Cerebrov vaults (where I won't go anyway!!!) and some rare dungeon vaults with crystal walls and a sword on the tele trap.

Lrd is earth not earth/conj. Vehumet does however boost it

Dig from a wand is fine. You can get more if you want. You could also just train earth and kill stuff with lrd and lcs/iron shot depending on what you get gifted. Staff of earth is an excellent melee weapon as well

Well, its damage is reduced by AC. Is the reduction calcultaed separately from base damage (as rod of striking) or not ?
Overall, I think the staff of earth is worse than staff or fire, as you don't get any resist from it :/
And yeah, LRD is only Earth magic, so you'll have a hard time to get it online... But if you already have conjur + fire and can find a book (or be gifted) with Bolt of magma, it might be worth it, to have a AoE not-fire spell.

PS: about that, LRD makes more nosie than Fireball, with the explosion is bigger than the basic 3x3

Damn that IP block! I cannot access wiki from my work subnet because it was blacklisted somewhere and bots doesn't give enough info.
Anyway, I will take LRD only for the purpose of tearing down stronger walls. With staff of earth and, say, 30Int and 27Spellcasting I should have only 6Earth to get it strong enough to demolish metal walls. Anyway I may train it sometimes to get +3AC from stoneskin.
But I still don't see the purpose of it.
In long term I may like to train Earth for physical damage against rF opponents. But I will do it only if I find a book with some endgame earth spells. Then LRD will be there. So I decide I'll skip this Veh gift.

And I will never fight with staves while I can cast. Magic dart + Battlesphere makes good work with popcorn mobs.

Iron Shot is good too, even against non-rF opponents.

If you have 10+ Fire and 10+ Earth (and no Ice/Air), I think you are extremely likely (but not guaranteed) to get Fire Storm / Shatter / Crystal Spear as your final Vehumet gifts.

Isn't there a chance that one of this spell will be changed to, say, Chain Lightning? I don't want a Fire Storm to be this spell. So I'd better stick with FIre Magic only until the gift.

Now my webtiles process got hung, so I'll write a short report.
I managed to make only 2 levels of lair, but this was not boring. My stupidness brought me to 6 hp when fighting black mamba. Vehumet pleased me with delayed fireball. And I found 3 books. One was very stupid, I don't remember the title. The second was book of air, where I learned swiftness and repel missiles from, and the last is the Book of Warp!
I think I will learn cTele and Phase shift. Controlled Blink sounds cool, but I have to train Translocations first. Disjunction sounds cool to, I think I will give it a try later. If I survive long enough.

I did 1 floor more. There was an Ice Cave where I found Book of Clouds. That is quite cool because I can use ring of flames to boost my fire spells if necessary. And it is good to use before descending into unseen level. Now I have battlesphere with me, haste on me. If it is be peppered with ring of flames I'll feel safe enough.
Magic mapping showed that there are swamp entrance.
Fire skill is really close to 15 now. I'm gonna train fighting/dodge soon! Hooray for survivability!

Yes. And training Earth magic makes it incredibly unlikely that will happen! If the wiki description is at all accurate, it works like this:

With 0 Earth skill, your three gifts are drawn from a lottery where Fire Storm has 19 tickets, Ice Storm has 1 ticket, and Tornado/Chain Lightning/Shatter/Crystal Spear all have 10 tickets each.

With 10 Earth skill, your three gifts are drawn from a lottery where Fire Storm/Shatter/Crystal Spear have 19 tickets each, and Ice Storm/Tornado/Chain Lightning have 1 ticket each.

Vehumet gave me bolt of fire. So I have a decent damaging spell now.
But that is not the point of this post.
I IDed a potion of Cure Mutation. And I decided to quaff a potion of mutation.
First potion gave me -10%MP, then removed this and granted me with Icy Blue Scales 1 (+1AC).
"Okay" I thought. Then quaffed the second potion of mutation.
It gave me spit poison, Int +2 and berserkitis.
I thought +1 AC and Int +2 is quite ok for gambling and I drank my 2 potions of beneficial mutation.
Got HP +10% and Str +2.
Not that good (I expected to have some resistances or clarity), but HP +10%, Int +2 and AC +1 still make sense. Also Str +2 will greatly help with carrying weight capacity.

Lair: 8 granted me with staff of power. Now I have 53 MP that is cool. I decided to do Orc now and was surprized with the Elf entrance in Orc: 3. I thought it can be generated on Orc: 4 only.

Orc is clear, so does the Elf 1-2.
I cleared half of the Elf 3, but decided to put it off until later. Blademasters are hard for me now.
Vehumet gave me LCS, Shatter and Fire Storm. That is great!

Now I'm looking for the source of rPois (other than staff of poison, because I like that staff of power!) to do swamp. Snake will go next. I hope D12-15 will provide it.

Just a few remarks (better players maybe will have different...):

I can't see your spells from the dump but I think you did over train spell casting a bit. I would rather focus on fire\conjuration or get more charms for haste if available.
The mutations you gained give very minor bonuses with the big malus of berserkitis, but as long as you never melee anything is ok, on most chars I would quaff a cure mut potion.
Ring of sustenance is useless, even more so with your super hi spellcasting, replace it when you find something better.
Mana points over 50 are reduced so the staff of power will be not so useful soon. If you go swamp you can just swap the poison staff when you see a swamp drake/dragon.
Your equipment needs upgrading but if the RNG doesn't cooperate you can't do much about it.

Konedar, thank you for the tips!
Istarted to trin spellcasting in order to learn some more spells. When IOOD was gifted by Vehumet I had no free spell slots for it. Unlearning some junk helped a bit, but I want a bit more spell slots for Ring of Flames and Fire Storm that will come soon (I hope).
Also I got less hunger rate on spells and I think I will turn it off at 22. I'm gonna get Necro to 5 or 6 for Animate Dead and then focus on fire+conj because I need them badly.
Even if animate dead become useless in lat, I have 2 highlevel books and 1 of them tends to be Necronomicon. So that Necro skill won't be waste.
You are right about mutations - they are quite useless for now, not more than a little pleasant thing. But I will stick with them until I find more potions of remove mutations.
Equipment is bad and rng continue laughing at me. I played a bit more and got +2 boots of jumping. At least I have 2 more AC :(.
I think I can do Elf 3 a bit later with animate dead support. Hope there will be some good gear. With my current one esistances are awful.

Personally I wouldn't bother to learn ring of flames as I always end up not using it, but you will have the skills for it anyway so you might as well try it and see how it works for you, just don't go in melee/reach range of anything that could have freezing brand or it will get you killed.
