How do YOU "walk off" your YASDs?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Typically by taking a swig of my tea (I always play with a mug of tea nearby) and roleing up a new character.
What made you happy today?

cyc. seriously. the tavern helped a lot. when it started i was crawling for hours every day and getting pretty steamed. coming here to commiserate took the edge off the rage. now i spend far more time here than playing the game.

Usually I go back to whatever I was using Crawl to procrastinate from. From the deaths of my characters, productivity is born anew. That's poetic, don't you think? Me neither.

"Well... crap." *Rolls new character or goes and does something else*

I think I stopped raging at my deaths after I could clearly see my mistakes that led to them. And when, after my 15-rune win, I started playing sub-optimal builds rather than the norm. It certainly takes the edge off when you go into a game knowing that your build plan is considered terrible and has a high chance of death rather than rolling a, say, a MiBe and expecting to win.

Sometimes a good beat-em-up works well to vent the fury. There is nothing like having Nick Fury smash a battleaxe into a skull of some hapless sucker standing in his face ;).
... and forgive us our YASDs,
As we forgive our developers,
And lead us not into the Abyss,
But deliver us from Sigmund,
For Thine is the Roguelike,
the Orb and the Victory,
now and forever.

ReEnter the dungeon with a TrBe and smash everything in my way while pressing keys like crazy. Until i die again. But this time it's actually satisfying.

Alternatively, play Felids.

You die...

"FUUUUUUUU-"

You rejoin the land of the living.

"...oh! Okay, whew!"

+1... when I have a really bad sleepy death, I play an Octopode fighter or a human wanderer, etc., just to show the dungeon i'm not afraid!!

I do this as well. Only, I get stubborn and keep playing that build until I have a really crappy death or eventually win. It's the circle of masochism.

Though, I did end up with the first 15-rune all lucy DD win as a result, so there is that.

Re: How do YOU "walk off" your YASDs?

Anyone who's watched my crawl vids knows:

"Annnnnnd, I died." Followed by a pause. Followed by a detached analysis of why I died and how I could have improved my chances and/or how it was my fault. It's only the deaths where I feel it really *wasn't* my fault or there was very little I could have done about it that piss me off nowadays. For those? I generally go talk to my other friends who think that playing crawl as much as I do is stupid and then play a game of something else for a while...

... or run a DEWz/SpCj and try to win the game.
