CIP - DEFE needing advice

Here's my latest guy. I got lucky when I fell through that shaft (last night too tired to noticed I went down multiple floors). I have no interest in going back to floor 16 if I at all can avoid it, screw Nikola.

Advice? Where to go? What skills to train up? Now that I have firestorm up, should I turn down cj/fire and pick up spell casting to make it cost less hungar or pickup more defensive skills or just keep it as is?

By the way, what is up with this:

wow.. you're pretty well setup
Your plan sounds ok - leave Spellcasting on and tune down Conjurations & Fire
Lookout for utility spells - Sublimation of Blood, Haste, Blink, Apportation, etc

That ring of fire makes you rC- which can be dangerous. I'd do without the ring unless you really need the boost, or have some other means to cover your rC deficiency.

I usually ask for armour with scrolls of acquirement - the results tend to be better.
If you're looking for Staff of Fire or Conjurations you can try staves too since you have high skills in those schools.

Oh, and do bump up your Traps & Doors to 8~10. You don't want to be stumbling into Zot traps later.

Cleared through vaults 7 with this guy. I guess Shoals is next? I need two more runes and I hear slime is a branch to avoid. I have 11 spell levels open, unsure what to pickup. Summoning? I have haste/ blink/ controled teleport / flight for utility. I've also never gotten then far in the game, so I'm unsure what to do w\ my skills.

Also, vault 7 welcomed me with this. I barely survived going up stairs and blinking away/firestorm. Felt seriously unfair. (it was my fault for not having haste on, however).

Those kinds of entrances are why I am terrible with casters and generally don't play them. I'm just now starting to do hybrids who go melee first then learn some utility spells later

I agree with the above advice I just think you don't need to worry too much about ring of flames giving you rC-. I haven't played any ring of flames characters as I hate casters, but I know the flame clouds it spawns will block bolts of cold entirely. Most ice cannot get through it. Freezing clouds cannot spawn on top of existing fire clouds. Really the only ice damage you're likely to encounter will be freezing branded melee attacks from simulcrums, ice beasts, etc. And those are all fire vulnerable creatures that have to stand in a flame cloud to hit you, assuming you didn't blast it with fire from range first.

Aka, you're pretty safe. Don't blunder into a zot trap and roll some cold miscast though

So, end of the road for this character.

After powering through vaults and elf, getting to zot was easy. Zot 1-4 was pretty easy, but zot 5 was another story. I almost died like 4 times, one time escaping by a crazy teleport sequence when I got teleportis. A few lessons learned:

1) High level Fire Storm will kill most things in a few rounds, Orbs of Fire are one exception. One of them took 5 to the face and kept coming.
2) Having an entire game with no see invisibility spawn sucks as a caster on Zot 5 when you run into Ghost Moths. I didn't know why my MP keep being drained, provoking multiple near death events. Once I found out about them and thought about it, bringing scrolls of fog solved the problem, but not after I used almost all my resources.

3) Pan lords are scary, and running fast enough is difficult.

For somebody who never made it to the first rune, this guy was painfully close...
