CIP: OgBe, how to progress?

I wanted big weapons, so I started an ogre. Now I got some big weapons, yet staying alive to swing them seems a bit problematic. Slow, no controlled blink, low evasion and armour of paper -> I'm a bit nervous. So, what should I do about this character? I've met and killed Mennas and Boris, both of whom were too close calls, and I wouldn't like to count on luck for each encounter (with me both receiving and dealing huge damage, and little escape options).

Should I survive that far, I'd like to (yet again) take a shot at extended game, and I was thinking of switching to Kiku for food and torment protection later. Is that a good idea?

Also, I understand Trog giving me darts, as I have some throwing skill for those awesome rocks, but why am I getting triple swords?

And how do armour and EV calculate to spell hit/damage, or do they? Would something like gold dragon armour help against stuff like Iron Shot or OOD? Or just evasion? Or is it just luck?

Both Iron Shot and IOOD check AC (in fact, most spells do) so wearing GDA does help against them. Iron Shot is dodgable by EV, while you have to manually evade OOD.

I would say that TSO or TSO -> Zin are far superior to Kiku on this character type. TSO increases your damage output both with the weapon blessing and active abilities, and Zin offers the reliability Kiku would with much lower investment with Sanctuary, and stuff like rRot, Imprison, hell effect protection and very good rMut.
You should pick up casting (probably in fire dragon armour) for extended; Charms and Translocations are good choices. If you were burning books stop now. Also raise int.

Trog's gifts are weighted towards your main school (maces) but that's not guaranteed. Look on the bright side - you might get a great long blade on a short blades halfling or something, it's not all ogres and triple swords.

You've already thrown a lot of your xp away, which is making the game harder. I recommend not wasting any more on evo and dodging at least. Also stop training strength and stop carrying so many items around.

I never burn books when playing Trog, just in case. But I should've been raising int from the start, only I wanted some more ogre smash (I didn't think I'd survive even this far, as I'm bad at playing melee, and all my ogres tend to die even faster). I hope it's still possible to get some reasonable casting later.

I'm a bit worried about food issues later, which is why I thought about Kiku. I'll give TSO a shot if I get that far, I guess farming for food is always a (boring) option.

I was pretty sure ac/ev would help against spells, but didn't know for sure. It's nice to know

Heh, status update. Cleared Vaults 8, and it was.. tricky. 10 shadow dragons made sure I wouldn't gain too much exp, forgot to switch conservation and very ugly thing burned most the scrolls I was carrying, every Yaktaur captain was a nightmare. And vault guards involved invisibility (I guess it helps a bit), haste, blink, and lots of running afterwards. But it's done, and I got a nice resist amulet out of it, plus a pearl dragon hide so I can finally start training armor (had to blow the one single enchant armour scroll I have found so far to it, but I think it's worth it).

When would it be a good idea to switch to TSO? I'll miss the chaff, but I'm more worried about Trog's wrath. I'd like to get training spellcasting asap though :/

Oh well.. I everything was easy, I was unstoppable force and stuff. I went to kill Geryon. Uh, and it didn't die quite fast enough, got blocked from stairs and swarmed over. And that happened after I had barely escaped the same a moment earlier.

Oh well, this always happens. I think I'll roll another one, this time I can plan better :D

Uh, I'm pretty sure both of my Og of Trog (OgBe and OgFi) turned off dodging at turn 1, put everything into str and got the heaviest dragon armour they could, and these were like two of the easiest games I ever played - in fact it was actually a mini Og streak! (broke it with OgCr instead of cheating with Trog again)

Well, ogbe ends up with I think 30 str anyway. So you'll have enough for gda without extra penalties if you happen to get one. I also would not train dodging at all, or possibly much, but you'll have more benefit and more options with dex should you not find heavier armour for a while.

Why does dodge have so low value on ogres? They have to get by with robes for a long time, and melee most of the time. They seem pretty squishy without some dodge. Though, the points I put in dodge didn't really raise ev that much. Size matters that much, then :\

I'll try without much dodge next. Still not sure whether I want to cast later or not. Especially haste and controlled blink are awesome, but keeping buffs up is a hassle.
