MD Berserkers - 15 runes YaVP (and two YASD)

First YASD:
Third Trog gift and he gives me this:
Executioner axe +4, +13, freeze, rF++, AC +4, lair become so easy
Now i feel like totally badass, nothing can stop me, right?

D 15: little harmless wizard in LOS, step forward - cast into the abyss
Wandering through the abyss, chopping some demon head from time to time, when troubled I ask brothers for help, finally I saw Lugonu altar.
I Think: I have uber axe, full piety for brothers, spent some time here and can handle, not the worst place this abyss
died surrounded by enemies, battle was epic, vampire (he started this mess), orange rats, demons, more demons, brothers, and me berserking at 1/3 HP, and it could been winnable with little more luck. I know i still would be in the abyss, but who knows?


Second YASD:
quick:
got nice stuff, early superb cloak, early ring of slaying, nice shield, second ring of slaying, yep RNG loves me, and then started play lighting fast, have been in snake 5, vault 8, went to elf.

My stuff: (now I know that with this stuff you could easily do 15 rune victory)
and elves, shoals, slime pits loot is still waiting for me
now I have term for this type of stuff: late game stuff
+5 cloak of Deoll {+Blink +Inv rElec Acc+4}
+3 helmet "Ureqarch" {rF+ Str+3}
-1 shield {rC+ rF+}
+4,+6 ring of slaying
+0,+7 ring of slaying
+2,+7 anti-magic broad axe {god gift}
the ring of the Countless Demons {rF++ AC+5 Stlth++}
+0 crystal plate mail
amulet of the gourmand (and now I’m Kobold Berzerker deluxe)

So what happened?
At Elf moat:
You float gracefully downwards. You fall into the water!
You drown...
You die...

...
...
...
More dots, I’m little pissed ;)


And Finally YAVP (first 15 rune victory, second at all)

some item facts (remember second YASD RNG? - not in this game)
no MR since Tartarus (trog's hand is not the same as reliable MR source)
no rElec, since dragon armour, and wearing this removed my only rF+ from plate mail
no rC+ source, don't remember how long exacly, but LONG
no sINV
no rN+

however since lair i find two decent rings
ring "Naliyf" {AC+4 Dex+4 Int+3} - dex and int don't mean much for MDBe
the ring of Uhimuah {Hunger- Dam+4 Stlth++} – ring of slaying, mostly

hardest monster to deal in all game? mimic, when everything is threatening, desperatly looking for some good items, encounter shop, spark of hope, shop changes into mimic, pesky mimics can take all your hope.

at valut 5 cast into the abyss:
found Lugonu's altar, due to first YASD decided to converted and escape

Then I started to learn blink, to escape from Trog minions, cleared up to Valut 7 and regular dungeon.
Now I can do:
a) shoals (without MR and levitation?)
b) elves (without sINV, to lose scrolls and potions?)
c) valut 8 (very deadly)
d) crypt (my XP will be drained)

So when I learnt swiftness, i decided bravely to say: "hello abyss" once more and switch to TSO (for rN+++ to get exp in crypt), I had to switch to leather amour to cast spells, and when my enchantments skills was raising I was still juggling between shield, two handed weapon, and heavier amour to search optimal AC/SH vs. chance to cast spells. Worst time in the abyss was when TSO laser mark showed up to alert monsters, and couldn't invoke yet shield not the mention angels. Found the abyss exit, cleared crypts, death was near all the time.

Game break point - valuts: no resist, 2 god wraths, insane difficulty, so many times it was close to death.

After vaults rest game was easy, I have done rest braches, Gehena with rF++, Dis, Tartarus, with TSO and holy executioner axe you will regain life faster then you lose it.
i had problems with Coytus with only one rC+, so I went to pan, where I had only twice hp alerts due to ice storm casters, Lob Lobon, and some random Pan lord.
I don’t wanted to risk but I probably could defeat all hell and pan uniques one-on-one with berserk. At this time i was low on food, but with ring of sustenance, in pandemonium you will find more than you can eat. At Zot for the first time cast haste to deal with orb of fire, to this point i was loyal to my berserker roots, and used only bezerk but i also wanted to do it super safe.

abyss in general:

first three times was fun and scary but then it was milk and butter

Couple of thoughts about MD Berserker

MD berserker is bad stuff proof, it’s still possible win without good gear.

Trog > Okuwaru
better gifts, because weapon is your most important part of fighter gear and in MD case executioner axe is guaranteed.
piety free berserk, you can easily do your first snake kill, get xp, improve , first ogre kill get xp, improve, first centaur kill, ect, ect up to your first ancient lich kill , if you know when to berserk you won. If berserk run out, and still dangerous enemy in sight drink ! of speed (always have bottle or two), summon brothers, (i had to do this just once or twice)
Brothers - they are so powerful, like this double headed ogre, who killed Mara with two slaps of his stick.

Plans for now? monthly brake from Dungeon Crawl, just to find out if I’m addicted.

After game discussion

Ring of levitation could work permanent (like bots of levitation), maybe it prevents next stupid drowning like mine
Hell and pandemonium lord shouldn't cast you into the abyss, at this game stage the abyss is trivial
Swiftness could work like “movement berserk” after initially +2 to speed, when ends could give -2 to speed for a certain amount of time. It would prevent "i'm all the time swift" and with this nerf the abyss would last challenging longer.

Yeah I hate with a vengeance all summoner monsters, but it seems like especially vampires are more irritating than dangerous. But then it's most irritating when they -are- dangerous. >_>

it could be in we learnt important lesson today topic i guess

"small mammals flood, isn't dangerous, but demons smiting from behind are"


and last thing, i have cool feeling when i wake up in the morning after win, there was unbelievable that i do it, like: "i do it? i really do it?"
so i had to wrote long post to seal victory

since we have same associations

i didn't speak it loudly, but yes it was like night after with hot chick, with one difference its easier to "obtain" hot chick than crawl 15-runes win

Thanks for this post. I think I will try me some MDBe action. I've been trying all this "clever" stuff like Crusaders and Hunters, now that armours back on the menu I think it will be a nice change to just bludgeon my way to the Orb.

It depends who you're married to as well. The quest for the Orb often leads directly to me not "obtaining" a hot chick who is right there. I am a truly stupid individual, really.
