Farewell brown F

I post here my cry for a lose such as this. Everything makes sense now. The genocide of the mountain dwarves was just a mere smoke curtain to hide the complete removal of the giant toads by the devs in 0.10.

I open this thread to allow people to express your moans and gypsy curses.

We'll miss this over-sized warted amphibians

Crawl is ruined forever and the sky is going to fall. They were the perfect balance of giantness and frogness and even an identical monster with a different name cannot fix the hole they will leave in the universe.

Giant toads are the pets of the mountain dwarves; this is like if they removed orcs, they'd have to remove wargs too.

I hear they're going to ban vowels next, both as character glyphs, inventory letters, and keystrokes. Hope you enjoy working with 42 item slots, though at least you won't have to worry about packs of orcs. I imagine I'd get used to having to evoke food to eat it.

And god help us all if they decide that "y" counts as a vowel...

Looks like kenku have just been removed, too, to make room for another race. An astonishing choice, really, although admittedly there would be too much conceptual and play-style overlap between kenku and tengu to keep them both. I suppose the nod went to the challenger because 'kenku' is a D&D-ism.

Not really "removed" so much as "overhauled." The only change so far has been to the name, and I'd be surprised to see drastic differences between the two.

We're not thinking outside the box enough, Grimm. Sure, no other game uses Harappan script, but in the end, the ASCII character set and Harappan script still have one thing in common: they're both visual depictions. We can do better. We can do more different. We can do... the world's first entirely sound-based roguelike. Chirp into a microphone and your speakers will descibe the level entirely in beeps and tones.

Obviously this move is to make Crawl more similar to Nethack. Next eating tengu corpses will grant teleportitis or -control, demonspawn will be renamed to succubus/incubus and spriggans to nymphs, along with associated powers. I for one look forward to starting as a nymph wanderer and spending all my starting gold in the temple to buff innate AC...

No no no, a smell rogue-like would NEVER work, remember that the early 80's experiments in smello-vision received horrible reviews. We need something bigger something even more outside the box. I present to you my idea - the taste based rogue-like, imagine the fun of navigating the dungeon by your tongue alone, the wonderful tastes of raw flesh and blood, as well as the taste of mutagenic corpses it would provide a veritable cornucopia of new experiences for the playerbase.

That's a bit TOO far outside the box.

What we really need are expensive touch-screen tabletops for the sole purpose playing Crawl -- This would result in a more immersive gaming experience due to the inherent grandness of this new medium! Crawl would extend its dominance of the genre! Half the geeks in the country would line up until midnight to get their hands on such a highly desirable piece of gaming software!
