So I've never won a game. Had a few times that I've picked up a couple runes and recently lost a very promising start with 4 Runes in Tomb to an unanticipated wave of Torments and Smites all on the same turn. I walked away from that game having learned the following.... more fighting, find some AOE before hitting Tomb, Stealth is underwhelming, even when I have full ++++++++.

A few questions, in no particular order.

1. I've never ascended before. I should probably just "win" so I have one under my belt but I'm enjoying extended with this guy. Any thoughts?
2. I've never done Pan before. I understand that I probably need to bring a wand of digging and or disintegration with me. Anything else substantially different than Hell?
3. Should I expect anything in Dis and Tartarus to be significantly more difficult than Tomb, Cocytus, and Gehenna.
4. I've never entered a Ziggurat before. In looking at my Equipment I see only a couple places to upgrade including:
a. A large shield with Reflect so I can swap jewelry around and wear my Amulet of the Four Winds (not terribly important given that I have mutational clarity, but it would give me MR +++++ vs ++++-
b. Maybe Armor with more interesting/powerful properties (what I have is fine really, but I'm sure there is room for improvement.)
c. Artifact boots? I have been pretty happy just switching between flying and running boots but maybe.
All of that said, Ziggurats seem cool and it could be fun. Any thoughts?
5. Given my 27 Evocations, are either Sceptre of Asmodeus or Horn of Geryon situationally useful in extended, and specifically more useful than the other evocables?
6. Anything else?

A couple things I underestimated the value of until I used them.
1. Reflect.... wow. Just wow.
2. Disc of Storms. I've lost some DDFi of Mahkleb before who had decent Evocations skills and never used this device. Based on what I saw in Tomb with it, with Mahkleb HP recovery, rElec and damage shaving I imagine I could just use this perpetually to clear packs and walk away with full HP.
3. Jivya is fun. Oka pennance was annoying when it was poorly timed, but not complicated.

It is usually optimal to do Tomb as last rune with many characters, sorry about character who died in Tomb.

1. If you are fine with losing this guy, continue getting runes. If its death will make you very upset, just win.
2. Pan can be much worse. Imagine landing in the middle of Hellion's crowd or with panlord, 3-4 different fiends, tormenters and hell sentinels, you basically need either statue form, necromutation, TSO or scroll of blinking.
3. Iron Giants hit very hard in melee, one of bottom floors has Silent Spectres and hellord with silence, prepare to evoke wand of teleportation instead of reading scroll of blinking if needed.
4. You can clear a few floors of ziggurat just fine and see how it looks like. I wouldn't dive below level 7 or so with the character.
I would replace first ring with robustness and amulet with 4 winds, then you will have MR+++++ and much higher AC. Reflection is not very useful in extended, it does not help vs most dangerous damage - hellfire and torment. If you are patient with luring, boots of running are very good in extended. If not and you charge monsters anyway, replace them with artifact boots indeed.
5. Sorry, no answer here. Some players claims hellfire item is OP but I have no experience.
6. I would just win, you have only a single scroll of blinking and a single scroll of recharging.

Edit. Another reflection amulet is better than current one.

I have been weighing the benefit of the amulet of 4 Winds and Ring of Robustness. I can wear it gaining 8AC MR+ and losing rF down to just rF++ and 3STR (unimportant). Once I have AC over 40 something, I was unsure whether or not more AC was as important. Likewise, with Clarity mutation, I wasn't sure how important that 5th + of MR really was.

rF++ decreases fire damage by 67%, rF+++ decreases fire damage by 80%, the difference is very small.
Extra AC is always useful, especially with the way GDR works.
You can check monster spells and see how it depends on MR pips. For example, press ?/m and then type "ancient l" to see success chance for paralysis, you will see MR++++ does not make you immune to it. Even MR+++++ does not make you immune but with 4 winds you will have higher MR (it is still displayed as 5 pips but you will have equivalent of 6 pips)

Well, clearing Zot5 was laughably trivial. Now I just have to decide when to pick up the Orb and run.

That's also kind of general philosophy and doesn't only concern crawl.

The game is technically won - but you are not familiar with extended. However, when you can do one part of it, you will usually be able to do the other parts too. I personally often go pan -> hells -> tomb.

Because of the torment problem I prefer stealthy chars in extended. You went another way (crystal plate, no stealth) so tormenting foes will notice you quickly. It's useful to know how to deal with them, e.g. break line of sight or kill them quickly.
