CiP: HeCr - My most successful character yet!
I've got a high elf crusader going strong - level 21(!) and lots of good equipment. Just cleared out Elf 8, where my previous best character was wiped out, and I'm pausing to evaluate my situation and equipment.
My katana (so awesome) and my gloves (no other options) are locked in and I've been stuck carrying around the Mnaih boots as my only source of rElec until I just now found the crown (don't know if it's worth wearing with +hunger). I've just been wearing the +2 armor of magic resistance for lack of better options, but I have a suit of +3 salamander armor (rF++) that's tempting.
I don't normally carry all of this; I did a character dump next to my stash after picking up my best gear.
I'm hoping you folks can help me with my ideal equipment setup and help me choose where to head next. I've cleared The Lair, Orc, Elf, Hive, Swamp (rune), Snake (rune), Vault 1-7 (Mara, Mennas, and Boris are still hanging around), and Crypt 1-4. I've been down to lvl 19 in the dungeon and haven't bothered with the Hall of Blades because I'm happy with my sword.
Sadly, I just chugged my only two cure mutation potions hoping to be rid of slow movement, but managed to cure all 7(!) mutations except for it - losing my lovely Carnivore 1 in the process. Thanks RNG!
I'm just hoping/praying for a 3-run win because I've never even come close to a victory before, so I'm looking for the most conservative path to victory here.
PS: I've been relying on melee and buffs (haste, fire/freezing, berserk, deflect, heroism, silence) so far, but I'm considering working on my air magic in hopes of learning tornado eventually (haven't found it in a book yet). Is this wise or should I focus on charms and utility spells?
