Cyclops Race

They would start with Acc- (1 eye), have a +4 throwing aptitude and could tame sheep, yaks, death yaks and catoplebas. They could also throw sheep at 22 strength. (This race is a joke? Maybe?)
Aptitudes:
Fighting: 0
Shortblades: -4
Long Blads: -2
Axes: -2
Maces and Flails: -1
Polearms: -2
Staves: -1 (they are shepherds after all)
Unarmed Combat: 0

Bows: -2
Crossbows: -3
Throwing: +1
Slings: +1 (shepherd)

Armour: -2
Dodging: -1
Shields: 0

Spellcasting: -2
Conjurations: -2
Hexes: -4
Charms: -3
Summonings: -1
Necromancy: -2
Translocations: 0
Transmutations: -1
Fire Magic: -3
Ice Magic: -3
Air Magic: -5
Earth Magic: -1
Poison Magic: -2

Invocations: +1
Evocations: 0
Stealth: -3

Also at max throwing you become the CATTLE HURLER.

Re: Cyclops Race

Add throwing Yaks at even higher strength. (Or are there really that many sheep in the game?) Maybe a Breath delay between throws if this is getting strong.

+4 might be overkill for Throwing... Trolls aren't even close but my PC trolls blast them at the rock contest with only 10-12 Throwing. So not sure the monster Cyclops is even that good!

PS What happened to Conjurations?
And Unarmed Combat... I expect would be at least similar to Trolls?

I'm amused though. The shepherding could be a hoot, and they're critters that hit well without all the usual fuss about "but I can't be bothered to develop [under]geared allies."

Ooops. Yep add a throw yak ability at 28 strength and make it the same as ogres and trolls (strength every 3 levels).

Re: Cyclops Race

It could be annoying (though flavorful) to literally herd your yak horde around, so I propose that the race gets an XP-gated ability to give birth to a swarm of sheep/yaks/death yaks (depending on XL) on the spot.

They could also lay yak eggs that hatch in 2-4 turns if instant yak herds seem too handy.

The goal is to raise your cattle. Also lets add a battlecry that causes breath, but mights all of your cattle.

Re: Cyclops Race

Maybe a horn of recall, similar to Geryon's, at a certain level that brings the yak pack back (with a delay). Again, might be ineffective in some branches like the Abyss.

Although I do like the idea of breeding some new ones now and again.

New numbers could be also be based on the number of existing yaks in the follower herd for flavor, although that would probably tend to make them less plentiful in the extended game. There might also need to be an upper limit, or a high probability of mostly breeding sheep and fewer serious hitters, or it could start to get OP.

Re: Cyclops Race

Just checking... When you said throwing Yaks, I assumed you meant tossing them into a distant position like Robin tosses around goblins.

Or did you mean, throwing them as ammunition? (Or both??)

Anyway, yeah I'm still not sure about a whole +4 to Throwing. Even with Inacc, that makes even Kobolds and Centaurs a bit humble. Trolls have nowhere near it... Hmms.

Even without such a huge Throwing plus, could be a heck of a Warper.

Like Polyphemus tosses around yaks, actually.

Like that.
Also at higher levels you could breed silver yaks that do more damage, and more damage to undead and chaotic creatures (also when thrown).

I think apis pretty much already are silver yaks.

Re: Cyclops Race

An ally throwing large race is unique and sounds fun as hell. Coolest race idea proposed IMO.

Re: Cyclops Race

If the yaks were goldified it'd be alright buuut currently even throwing 0 apt is super duper powerful. A +4 throwing race needs to either wait for the incoming ranged nerf or have spriggan-like health and slowness 2 or somesuch, and it'd still be very good.

Re: Cyclops Race

Because good aptitudes aren't remotely interesting.

I think it would be fine to just have a Cyclops be able to throw anything smaller than it, with a cooldown ala naga breath

Don't hate. I don't know why almost every race proposal has such wild aptitude distribution. How interesting is constraining the race to one, maybe two playstyles?

Okay lets tone down the throwing aptitude to +1 then.
