Race: Golem - gentle destroyer

Golem - an artificial race with a straightfoward flux system that encourages fighting.

Lore:
Golems are humanoid constuctions build by wizards to do their daily labers. In some rare conditions golem may gain conscious and start wandering into the dungeon attracted by the power of the orb. Golems conserve a portion of energy to keep themselves from falling apart, any damage or magical contamination will make the energy unstable and change their performance.

Traits:
Artificial: golems are a artificial race, they have innate rPois+++, rN+++, rTorm, rPetrification, rRot+++, rDrown and rWater, also barring them from worshipping Yredelemnul.
As constuctions, golems are vulnerable to Shatter, LRD and Disintegration.
Elemental Resistance: golems are build with magical materials, they have innate rF+, rC+, rElec.
Clarity: as constuctions golems cannot feel emotions, also barring them from worshipping Trog.
No food and potion: as constuctions golems cannot and do not need to eat or drink.
No mutation: golems gain flux instead of mutation.
Slow MP generation: golems generate MP slowly.
Very slow: golems are innately slow.
Forlorn: golems have trouble communicate with gods.

Attributes and skills:
Golems have lower than average HP and average MP, low EV, high AC and low XP gain.
Golems are normal at overall fighting and casting but very badand I will make them have low HP (like gargoyles) but without the GDR bonus. at invocation, as constuctions they cannot memory Cure Poison, any necromancy or transmutation spells.

Flux system:
Golems gain flux when taking damage or casting spell and gain larger flux when they are heavily damaged or magically contamined.
They are very slow when fluxless, as flux builds up they gain bonus of speed, spellpower, MP generation rate and malus of spell success rate.
Golems overheat when they are at max flux, they gain might, haste and -Cast for a duration.
After the duration they meltdown, explode in smoke coulds pure energy, clear all flux and became exhausted after the meltdown is complete.

Innate abilities:
Release: release one level of flux, release steam clouds in the progress.
Emergency Release: release all flux with violent explosion and steam clouds, became exhausted for a duration scales with flux level, the more flux level longer the duration.
Restablize: heal self using mp, healing power grow with heat level and XL.

What will this race do:
A race good for hybrid build, the player can choose to charge in or cast spell from a far to start a fight. When the fight prolongs the flux builds up, boosting damage and speed so the player can choose to fight further or flee.

Edit: formating.
Edit: tweaking.

Re: Race: Golem - a race with a special system

Seems a lot like lava orc. Then again, if there's one thing that killed lava orc it's that people insisted on making it use tension, which is a system that doesn't work (and is unmaintainable in general).

So it's the end of the story since one of the major member said so.
I guess it's time to make a self-branch.

That was actually about as close as duvessa gets to a compliment. The point being made was that this is a mechanically similar proposal to lava orcs, but lava orcs used tension for their temperature/speed/etc changes and it was wonky and easy to game. This proposal at least doesn't have those problems.

Can golems use all slots? Starting with so many intrinsic resists seems strong.

Is it slow movement or slow?

I would have to play this to form an opinion.

It's possible to abuse the flux thing with contam items/spells.

Interesting concept, but I think that gaining something from damage is problematic. In short, getting damage should always be bad, never good or in between.

I do think that Crawl could use another slow species.

Re: Race: Golem - a race with a special system

Thanks for reading this! Any suggestions will be appreciated.

@duvessa
Sorry I was misunderstanding that time. Thanks for your opinion!

@proacelf
Thanks for your opinions! Actually it's an attempt to recycle the mechanic form lava orcs.

@chequers
I think I will make them have lower HP (like gargoyles) or deformed body. The design is to mimic guardian golems and spellforged servitors in game.

@Wahaha
It's movement only, golems will be very slow (slow 2) when fluxless, normal speed at mid level of flux, and become very fast (fast 2) when at max flux. The flux system is designed to be able to interact with all sources of contamination. For example, you can keep hasting and/or don that sweet cage and go on fighting with flux bonus, but if the flux level is too high, you will risk a chance of overheating mid battle. Meltdown when you are fighting high level monsters is dangerous, just like ending bersereking too early.

@dpeg
Thanks for your opinion! The flux gain while taking damage gain is designed to make the system be high risk high reward and match the concept of guardian golems monsters.

Re: Race: Golem - a race with a special system

Aint that flux system leads to grinding? Like clear elf3 except vault, go to Orc4 where I left 1 orc to get flux from his hits, return to Elf3 fluxful and clear this vault? If haste&might gonna expire just read ?tele and repeat all the process again. Since there is no food clock, you won't have any trouble with it.

Since flux dissipates overtime like contamination, travel through levels will make a golem fluxless (slow and low MPgen), and only above grey level of contamination (one point of contamination) will build up flux. The ratio of flux gain from damage are still under consideration.

Then remove powered by pain, Xom, injury mirror, Ru's retribution, Jiyva's jelly spawning, Dithmenos' smoke, and the ability to extinguish sticky flame with BEAM_WATER.
