Suggestion: random human Character system
But in crontrast to the mutant system the character system is very balanced. A point could be: Bureaucrat (+memorise more spells, carry more items- can not see invisible(even with ring)) Every poimt should inflict the gameplay. And should be neither good nor bad.( of course difficult to design)
Also through game the character could change in a way. For Example: When changing from Elyvilon to Makhleb there is a change of 10% that the avatar become schizophrenic (playing two avatar at the same time. the second can not train and use the five highest skills of the first. Every turn is change of 0,2% to beserk and the they switches)

And of course every avatar should have a random biography, that is shown at the beginning of the game:

Humanism is good. And the game would become more like a riddle.Where you have to calculate what is best develoment for the avatar.
