YAVP - HOBE -First beserker to Zot5- I DID IT!!!

This is my first Berserker to make to Zot 5 and maybe the ORB. I really don't know if I'm ready for going for the Orb. I've cleared all the normal parts of the dungeon and have 3 runes but haven't found any fabulous armor or weapon.

My plan, for now, is to put on the Boots of speed, axe of Brasoall {drain, rPois rN+ Int+4 Dex+3 SInv}, +5 plate armour "Daerim" {rN+ MP+9 Str-5}. I'm hoping this will make me faster than what comes after me and will give me rN+++ rPois SInv. Really dont plan on fighting my way out.

I have one weird idea and that is to active a teleport right before grabbing the ORB. I would think you would pop to somewhere closer to an exit from ZOT5.

I would wear the boots of speed now, because Dex+2 and rPois isn't really that necessary. Then I would look for more rF, because while rF+ is sufficient, it's a lot better to have rF++ or +++ in Zot:5.

I'd also take off the ring of {SustAb Contam +Inv rN+ Int+2}, quaffing cancellation to cancel the contam, and just stick on a ring of fire resistance. That sustab ring is a trash ring. In your next game, I recommend not overestimating artefacts; I imagine there are probably better non-artefact items in the dungeon you could be using, especially for those awful gloves.

I also wouldn't take this character anywhere other than to the Orb and then out of the dungeon. This bro wouldn't be very fun to take through extended, imo.

The only rF+ items created in the whole dungeon where three suits of armour. No rings, gloves, cloaks, weapons, etc.. I guess I keep the Rf+ armor on and forget the plate armour "Daerim".

The only other gloves in this game are +2 gloves of dexterity.

I didn't' even find my first sINV until after clearing the 15 main levels, lair, orc, Spider, Volcano, Swamp, Vaults, and finally found one at end of Elf3.

I just tried Zot5 and got jumped to 2 ancient Lichs and 4 Orbs of fire all at once. Tele to get away and land next to the Orb of Zot and about a dozen Orb Guardians. Tele again and land back next to the Orbs of fire. Tele again and able to make to a stairs up and other ancient Lich it waiting. Made it up the stairs without dieing but used a lot of potions just to almost die. I had Trogs hand and haste before this started and I think that's what let me live. All this and I haven't even clear half of one side of the Orb chambers.

I always do this. Note that in 0.17 picking up the Orb will immediately increase the time when teleport goes off.

I don't really know. I had cleared the first room of one side and went I went to go around the corner and they just showed up all around me. The Oof were a couple of spaces away and the Lichs were at the edge of LoS. It wasn't a trap as they weren't right next to me.

Ways to finish the game without rMut:
1. Use your summoning scrolls and BiA to put things in the way so you don't get mutated.
2. Use walls to keep mutators out of LoF
3. Suck it up, seriously, if you get mutated, even badly while retrieving the orb, it's *really* unlikely to prevent you from winning, or escaping with the orb, and you don't get bonus points for winning without mutations. Just go win, particularly as a trog worshipper, there's really nothing that a mutation will do to you that will keep you from winning.

I DID IT!!!

There was a Ziggurat on one of the levels but it was surrounded by a fence and for some dumb reason I couldn't figure out how to get in. After using a wand of disintegration on Slime6 I figured it would remove the fence. Of course it worked and was able to go thru 13 floors of the Zig and add a couple of helpful items.

I clear the Slime pits hopping to find some more equipment to help but got nothing good. So now all my Cure Muts are gone and still have no way to combat Zot5

I'm really pissed off at this point. There should be some kind of solution but the only thing I see jumping into the Abyss for about 100 hrs hopping to find stuff and not die. There isn't a single item in game that has rMut!

Entering a Zig and going as low as level 13 was dangerous, IMO. A bad enough Pan/mummy floor would be worse than anything in Zot.
