YAVP FeTm of Sif Muna (tips included)
Having lost already hundreds of hours playing crawl, I decided I'd just play one unique time to try out the new version. So I asked my flatmate to choose a race and a class and started roaming with my Felid Transmuter. Turns out I won it (it's my second win ever !)
I didn't see any YAVP or guides (maybe I didn't look well, in this case apologies) to show how to play felids, so I thought I'd include some tips here. Most of this will probably be straightforward for advanced players but the younger ones might find it useful hopefully.
Most of the info on the wiki about Sludge Elf Transmuters applies to Felid Transmuters too, here are some additional infos :
- Not having any kind of armour is a huge handicap. Luckily, transmuters don't really need armour, as statue form, dragon form and necromutation have all the needed protections.
- The extra lives are tough to handle. I somehow managed to loose them as soon as I got them by taking stupid risks and thinking "I got an extra life anyway". In the late game though, they turn out to be very useful and should be spared for the tough places. Especially, walking through hell as a lich without extra life is risky if you meet shadow fiends (they killed me twice, which is why I didn't go for the 15 runes)
- The earlygame is a breeze with fulsome distillation and evaporate, and then spider form and ice form are just great. I had a lot of trouble beating hydras, you don't wanna melee them as an ice beast. The best thing I found was to use conjure flames in corridors, hydrae walk blindly through them and just die. When I found Ignite Poison, hydras stopped being a problem (and igniting the evaporated poison potions is a very nice crowd control tool)
- Alistair's intoxication is awesome, especially since I had a clarity mutation, it allows to clear the orcish mines, the elven halls and vault 8 without much trouble.
- Swamps with ignite poison are VERY easy, even the last level if you don't get surrounded. The Hive even more.
- Statue Form with Stoneskin is imba, I beat every single monster of the game with it, including golden dragons, Boris, the royal jelly... Dragon form is cool but very fragile, use it only when you need to dish out massive damage in a short amount of time. Berserking as a dragon is hella fun but hella risky too... Necromutation is a game changer, as always.
- The royal jelly was the hardest monster, even with resist corrosion. The wiki suggests to dig a corridor to take him out, but I think this is outdated because the walls hurt now (it almost killed me). The best way I found to beat it was to hit it once then get away, heal, kill the minions and repeat.
- Abuse Bjorngor's Revivification.
I'd be happy to answer any question
