Troll Spellcaster Problem
My typical "build" for this is to level up unarmed combat, dodging, and fighting in that order of priority until about level 10. The early game isn't hard because being able to (unreliably) use level 1 and 2 spells as a beastly troll gives me most of what I need to survive to the bottom of the Lair and/or Orcish Mines. Depending on what class I go with, I usually follow Vehumet, Sif Muna, or Kiq. Around level 10 is when I start the transition into more serious spellcasting. During this period I feel somewhat vulnerable because playing around against harder enemies with mid level spells can waste one turn too many when their rate of failure is above 15%.
None of this information accounts for other issues with my game. I have plenty of stupid deaths that have nothing to do with the character and everything to do with poor decision making. I still misjudge situations regularly.
My question is this:
Am I doing something unworkable or am I just doing it wrong? What is the easiest way to make a troll that relies on spells work?
