Thanks button

I miss the thanks button (the upright thumb), and "Has thanked"/"Have thanks" data from the user data. I think this is nicer to have than post-count, myself.

Re: Thanks button

That was a standard feature at freeforums, I have no idea how to add that. :(

I agree, it's a nice feature though. Napkin has a concern though about addons complicating forum updates.

Thanks feature

I liked the Thanks feature, and I've had one comment from another who misses it as well. What's the general view, is this add-on a good idea (and Napkin, are you willing & able to add it or something similar?

We could theme it and give runes or XP instead of Thanks.

Re: Thanks button

Ok.. I added it.

And I have to say... If you do not use one of the two included themes, phpBB3 is SUCKY and its code SUCKY when adding so-called addons. It feels like I have patched every single php-file of it. Not fun at all. And I bet on an upgrade I'll have to do everything again *sigh*

Enough of this for a while.

@Danr, please don't touch the .MOD config of this "Thanks for Posts" addon in the ACP without asking me. Some stuff doesn't work.. like the "unthanking".. But after creating that one "Thank" button I've had enough of Gimp, too ;-)

UPDATE: Seems like people need to log out and log in again for the button to show up. Please do so.

Re: Thanks button

Napkin - I plan to leave any mods / addons / customizations to you. So no worries, I won't do anything that will affect theming etc.

@minmay: Try ctrl+f5 to reload the website, it'll ignore your browser's cache.

Re: Thanks button

I've logged off on both my computers at home, and Deleted all board cookies, and I'm still not seeing it.

I do see #s of thanks listed, and I see that the #s are links, but if I click on them, I get a message saying that I do not have permission to view the Thanks list.

Does one need certain permissions to use the Thanks feature?

Where would I see the Thanks button if I were to see it?

I'll go poke around in the Admin Control Panel and see if I learn anything.

Re: Thanks button

Ok, I didn't change any permissions, neither user-permissions, nor forum-permissions, nor moderator-permissions, nor administrator-permissions. I just resubmitted all forum-permissions for Moderators and Administrators and now - at least according to the "view permissions" - you can all use the "Thank"-button and see the Toplist- and Gratitudes-page (which, you were right, was previous marked as "not allowed").

Please try again.

I dare to say, phpBB is a bit buggy.

Re: Thanks button

Maybe I'm dense, but I just don't see the thanks button anywhere. And I've logged out and in several times.

This is how your post looks for others. You can of course not thank yourself, so you won't see it in your own post.
But you should see it in this one.

Re: Thanks button

Ok, I swear that was not there on my screen until your post. I only saw the quote and the two icons by it. Maybe they're reading my mind or something. Spooky.

They are only appearing when you are logged in.

Re: Thanks button

It took me a few logins too. I would do all the following if you aren't seeing it yet:

- Log out
- Clear your cookies, even your browser cache
- Log in again
- If you still don't see it, refresh the thread with Ctrl-F5 or holding control while clicking the refresh button on your browser.

Re: Thanks button

Well, I suggest to do CTRL+F5 first or manually clear your browser's cache, then try logging out and in again. Cookies should not be of any matter, but as always with computers... "Have you tried turning it on and off again?!" (TM) ;)
