nothing appears to happen?

I have a level 16 MuFe in the Swamp. Rupert confused me. He has a holy great sword. I can't drink potions, I can't read scrolls or cast spells, but I have a wand of teleport, so I zap myself and it says "nothing appears to happen". I'm not wearing an amulet of stasis. I try two more times, same thing. He is hurting me real bad, so I use my wand of healing and it says "nothing appears to happen".

wtf is going on? Why aren't my wands working? Can he suppress them? I'm down to 24 health, I've got maybe one or two turns before I die. Someone please help.

The wand of teleport is empty because I zapped it three times. Swear to god it had three charges.

When you're confused you target a space at random when you use a wand. It is almost impossible for you to self-target a wand while confused. You were dead the turn you got confused.

Confusion is one of the most deadly spells against lich's or mummys. It's part of the reason why wearing an amulet of clarity is so damn good on them.

Sorry if that sounded dick-ish. I appreciate the info.

I tried to heal myself again (couldn't move since I was next to deep water). It didn't work, then it said "your confusion has ended" and Rupert killed me. I can't believe he had a holy weapon. I totally could have blinked and teleported away if I had the chance.

On a related note with mummies, how do they get rid of mutations generally? If you get some really bad mutation, do you worship Jivya, or what?

Mu don't get mutations, they get rotted instead. They can cure rotting with either a wand of heal wounds or by using an ability that they have.

(Honestly if you get so severely rotted as a mummy so that you need to use /heal wounds you're a terrible player)
(and I forgot that random effects can sometimes heal you)

Do note that if you're playing the latest trunk, wand of random effects can no longer heal. (It has disintegration instead.)

Does is still haste? If not, that's good to know for the future since it makes it more useful as a low level character.

It now chooses at random among all the wand types, and if it picks Heal Wounds or Random Effects it picks again.
(So it can still haste enemies, turn them invisible or polymorph them into something more dangerous.)

It still sounds like a decent idea to self-zap before going down staircases if you have rN+++ and drop your ! and ? (oh boy this is going to be fun). re: low level characters, artificers in particular, standing on staircases and zapping it at enemies coming at you is a good strategy.

Even with summoner zapping on an ally is viable (sometime).
