Don't know what I am capable of
I'm in need of some advice on what to do on my Ghoul Fighter, I really have no idea how tough most of the dungeon is. The furthest I have gotten before this fella is clearing Lair, Hive 2 floors of shoals and then dying in vault 7. I've never even gotten a rune, and I've played hundreds and hundreds of characters. 
Right now I've cleared Vault up to 6 and some of 7 but then I found Boris on Vault 7 and scarpered when I read he was a powerful lich who came back to life!(a lich killed my previous furthest crawler). I have scoured out most of the Snake Pit after an involuntary trip to the Abyss as soon as I set foot inside, courtesy of Louise. I poked my head into Snake Pit 5 but there was a lot of beefy types of nagas who I hadn't seen before, so didn't feel confident about taking it and backed up the stairs. Tried shoals, but couldn't get anywhere because the tide came in and wouldn't go out after a LOT of waiting.
I haven't ventured in the Orc Mines yet, since I lost my MDFi there (who was doing really well too), because I got surrounded by about 30 orcs with high priests in the back smiting and summoning etc everywhere, and am pretty sure I'd die in the same situation on my Ghoul too.
Just looking for some suggestions on which Rune(s) I should go for, since I have little to no experience, and don't really know what I am capable of.
Also wondering about my god choice in Ashenzari, scying has saved me from running headfirst into death several times, and just passively seeing monster location through walls makes pulling them alone very easy, so I'm kinda reluctant to give her up since I'm so inexperienced.
Nothing really noteworth in my stash, just some spell books and a few low-level wands.
While my trident is indeed super-yummy, I actually do a LOT more damage with the javelins, whose numbers have sadly diminished quite a lot. I also think I may of put too many points into str and not enough into dex, but it is a little late to change that now

While my trident is indeed super-yummy, I actually do a LOT more damage with the javelins, whose numbers have sadly diminished quite a lot. I also think I may of put too many points into str and not enough into dex, but it is a little late to change that now
, it could just be me getting unlucky with it too. The returning property makes up for it not outshining my javelins though! I don't have to worry about it breaking.
