On my MacBook keyboard there is now tilde (˜). I read that one can produce it by typing "option + n + space", which works fine in an editor etc. But it does not work in crawl. So how can I either input the correct key, or macro the macro menu to another key?

Ctrl-d is another way to make macros. Does that work on Macs?

Every picture I can find of the macbook keyboard, the tilde is to the left of the 1. Is it a non-US keyboard?
* followed by d is another option.

Yes it is a non-US Keyboard (a german one), but I normally use a US-Layout for coding and crawling. ctrl + d works fine! Thanks.
[edit]
With US-Layout on the german keyboard it is located on the <> button between shift and y. (Or between shift and z on a US Keyboard)
