My first win and first post. This game is awesome. I’ve beaten ADOM few times and tested several roguelikes, but this game is by far the best. I love the user interface (in tiles version, that’s the only one I tested), autoexplore, gameplay, etc. Many thanks to the developers!

Finally got my first win (15 runes!!) after several promising MuWi Summoners of Sif Muna. My last very promising character died horribly because an orange statue confused him. This traumatized me enough to wear an amulet of clarity with this character for the most of the game.

I've had hard times with Mummy Summoners (who start as Wizards), since I never wanted to bother with anything else than summoning and I'm still quite a noob in this game.

What I noticed was that the best health insurance for my Mummies was getting channel energy from Sif Muna. After that I had at least “infinite” imps, which is a huge help. This character lived with imps only a pretty long time, but channeling made things manageable. I had fun fights with a hydra with my huge army of imps, but I just didn't manage to kill it with imps (hydras regerate fast). But it didn't live too long..

It might have been the first god gift that gave me Summon Ugly Things (my favourite summoner spell). After that things started to look better and even hydras became a joke. Pretty much every visible enemy that was alone or in a small group was just an easy target for my endless waves of ugly things. Large groups of strong enemies were still of course very dangerous.

The part where I knew I had a good character came in the Snake pit, where I found this:

The +3 crown of Dyrovepreva (worn) {Hunger rElec Int+2 SInv}
(You found it on level 4 of the Snake Pit)
It affects your intelligence (+2).
It insulates you from electricity.
It enhances your eyesight.
It speeds your metabolism.

This is likely the best (or at least most suitable) item I’ve found in this game ever. Metabolism doesn’t affect me. +3 AC and +2 INT are obviously nice for any wizard, but especially electricity resistance was huge thing since my meat shields cannot protect me from electricity attacks (Nikola almost killed me in Elf because of that). Also being able to see invisible is very useful.

In early and middle game I only trained three skills: Summoning, Spellcasting and Invocations. I found some useful manuals though (two for dodging and one for armor) quite early, so I started to push those also. Btw, it’s fun to go from -2 aptitude to +4 for a while. Later I found even more manuals, but usually for weapon skills, so I just got rid of them.

Even though I had never played the late game, it was mostly easy after I had enough dragons. There were some scary moments, like in Ziggurat 21 when I faced large number of Mummy Priests and Greater Mummies. There I just had to escape, because I just couldn’t summon dragons fast enough.

I learned a lot from this run obviously. Main thing was that dragons are great! It’s very useful that they fly, so they aren’t hindered by lava or water (this is especially useful in Abyss). I would suggest MuWi Summoners of Sif Muna if you want to play a character who is a powerhouse in the end game. It’s a bit boring at times though, since you have mainly two things that you do all the time: you just summon dragons and channel energy. But I still found it to be really fun most of the time.

I had a staff of summoning also, so I don't know if preferring to use this was the correct option:

+3,+1 Elemental Staff (weapon) {protect, Hunger Noisy rF++ rC++ MR}
(You found it on level 3 of the Tomb of the Ancients)
It protects the one who wields it against injury (+5 to AC).
It greatly protects you from fire.
It greatly protects you from cold.
It increases your resistance to enchantments.
It makes noises.
It speeds your metabolism.

Anyways, it was great to finally win =D

congratulations on the full win! and you didn't even stop for 3.
i killed my most promising MuSu with an orange statue quite recently, so i know the feeling. Somehow i find summoners tedious, grow bored and die, usually some time after lair. Too bad, because the combination of Mummy, Channeling and summoning is indeed a very strong one.

Thank you! I've heard (and experienced) that those orange statues are real mummy killers! Once I found that precious amulet of clarity, I didn't take it off even once, even when I found some nice artifact amulets.

I noticed that there are only few items/things that you need, but these are quite critical:
- Amulet of clarity (mummies cannot drink potion of healing when they get confused)
- Wand of heal wounds (to solve the problem of rotting)
- Fire resistance (you start as vulnerable to fire)
- Electricity resistance (those bolts don't stop to your summons)

Other items don't really matter that much when you have 20 dragons around you and some utility spells as a backup. Ability to see invisible is useful also. Just remember to bring as many summons as possible (almost always 8) when going down stairs to a potentially dangerous place, use the dig spell if needed. Often having 8 instead of let's say only 5 dragons with you can be a difference between having no problems at all or having a tough fight.

I’m still surprised how easy the later game was with character build. Even Pandemonium (I very rarely even went under 200 HP there) and Hell were easy. Occasionally I didn’t even manage to see the end guardian before my dragons had already dealt with it. And you don’t have to care about food, so if you get your stats drained you can just wait it out. Plus if you are missing some item, just search Pandemonium since pretty much nothing can hurt you there if you play it safe, and you have no food clock. But I think this build is still balanced because of a difficult early game.

One more nice thing is that because you don’t have to carry potions, food or nearly any wands, weapons, ammo etc, you’ll always have plenty of room in the inventory. This build really doesn’t depend so much on items, except for those that I mentioned. At some point I’ll test if I can make it far with some other combination, but I think that late game will be much harder (but early game at least should be easier).

Congratulations on the all-rune run!

As for mummy rotting, you can also use a wand of random effects on yourself if you don't have a healing wand. You'll get the healing effect sooner or later, and the polymorph effect on wands doesn't work on yourself, so don't worry about that making the problem worse. Healing wands are probably better saved for when mummies need to regain HP in a hurry.

That would have been really useful to know in my run. I spent several scrolls of acquirement to get that first wand of healing just to get rid of the rotting! Thanks for a good advice!
