Bad ass hasted mutant ogre?

So I have a bit of an ogre obsession. All at one time I love and hate how they are so squishy and how easy it is to die if I don't pay attention for two seconds. After countless experiments, I have finally arrived at one of my longtime goals: Swinging a giant spiked club while hasted. It is awesome how this guy can straight up 1v1 6 headed hydras in melee at level 13.

Another one of my obsessions is to be a follower of Jivya from midgame onward. If I can get it to the point that I can cast statueform+haste+swing my giant spiked club at things.. well.. I will of reached one of my earliest Crawl goals. So as part of this mighty dream, I plan to shortly convert to the Jelly god and become an Archjelly myself. [I just found an altar after playing a little more]

So what problems can I expect? Hmm. So far, I am already having trouble with being overburdened (special thanks to Large Rocks), but I also just learned how to Fly. I know especially that when I swap to the jelly lord I will eventually be reduced to like 10 strength. I guess having to spam fly is just going to be on of the costs to being amazing?

My current plan is to get 1 more gifted spell book from Sif Muna and by then of found a Jivya altar, at which point I will swapzilla right into that shiznit.
Since I've reached my overall character build, I am going to start spreading my EXP between M&F,Fighting Dodge, Spellcasting & a bit of translocation and what not because I really want to cast Phase Shift.

Spell levels are getting really tight at this point, any tips on what spells to drop before I quit sif muna?

When I drop sif muna, I figure the safest thing I could do is go clear orc 1-3. Another idea I have is to go into hibernation (esp if I get another ring of sustenance) for like 10k turns to help reduce my penance.. But I don't have much experience iwth god wrath.. Help?

Any comments or tips? Any even crazier ideas, like turning to jivya and becoming a pure caster.. ie put the rest of my points into summoning -> summon bad ass shit -> haste my minions. Or becoming a conjurer? I don't really have a good ranged attack and I think I'm going to have to drop my large rocks when I get to like 10 strength (even with Fly)

Umm, 10 Maces&Flails is rather suboptimal. You should increase that to 10 delay (which is at 16 skill IIRC) and later to minimal delay. You can't use Haste in every fight.

Pile all those large rocks somewhere; only other larges can get them and the jellies can't eat them, then brand them all up in one big go for +5 Large Rocks.

It is definitely sustainable through this part of the game to use haste every fight, even as an ogre, cuz there is plenty of food to go around. When I swap to jiyva in a minute here and my int blows up, my food cost will go further down :D

so yah I'm using haste every significant fight (spiny frog encounters, hydra, blink frog packs << v dangerous)

Point taken re: Haste (who cares about a single or couple bad or mutation(s) with Jiyva, right).
Well, even in that case it's not a huge investment to get M&F to 20ish levels (on Ogres...) with lots of pay-off.
Also, you want more than Fair success once you lose miscast protection, you want Great.

Yep I've played a bit more. I think I'm about level 15 or 16. Been with Jivya for a while now, the change in intellect has brought Haste up to Good-Great (Depending if the jelly god feels like giving or taking a point or two of int). Things are going really well except I've been screwing up with my glow, been too impatient and I've been saddled by a pretty dangerous Teleportitis 2 mutation.. I will try keeping Control Teleport up 100% of the time so I can keep pressing forward. Gonna take it really ez in elf 1-3 to avoid glow and get rid of all these bad mutations via jivya. My piety can't keep up with mutation curing when I put myself into yellow glow all the time hehe
