Why are monsters able to move and attack

I can't figure out why monsters seam to be faster then me. They are able to move and attack at the same time. Last game had a hydra spaces away from me so I read Tele and tries to move away till tele happened. Hydra was able to run and attack multiple times to kill. I can't find any way to figure out what happened. As far as I know it was never next to me to be able to attack.

Your blink frog skeleton hits the seven-headed hydra.
Your blink frog skeleton hits the seven-headed hydra!
As you read the scroll of teleportation, it crumbles to dust.
You feel strangely unstable.
Your blink frog skeleton hits the seven-headed hydra.
The seven-headed hydra bites you! The seven-headed hydra bites you.
The seven-headed hydra bites you!
* * * LOW HITPOINT WARNING * * *
The seven-headed hydra bites you!

The seven-headed hydra bites you!
You die...

Re: Why are monsters able to move and attack

It was "random energy".

04:02:06 Sequell | energy randomisation[1/3]: Every time a monster makes a movement
| (i.e. not an attack/spell), the amount of time taken to do its turn
| has a 1/3 chance of being 0.1 turns slower, a 1/3 chance of being 0.1
| turns quicker and a 1/3 chance of being the normal amount. Over time,
| these 0.1s add up or cancel out to cause 'double moves' or 'lost
| moves'.

Hydras move through water faster than they do over land (and faster than you do), so if you're being chased by a hydra, try to avoid giving it steps through water in it's path to destroy you.

Add to that, Hydras also get as many attacks as they have heads. So if its a six headed hydra, it gets to attack you six times in one turn.

Hydras are extremely dangerous and you will die to them a lot. I'd go as far as to say they are one of the most dangerous Melee non unique monsters
