GrEE need spell advice (please)

Hi everyone!)
I need an advice.
My character is a GrEE, at the moment the game came to the orcs.
I was very lucky... I found a treasure trove (D:11) that was full of books. Now my spell list is full of different spells.
I immediately memorized Iron Shot & Regeneration. In priority - Shatter.
What other spells would you advise me to learn? So many options ...
I will be glad to your help :roll:

Definitely Ignition, also Orb and Vile clutch. Firestorm is pretty cool too, but getting it reliably castable is a bit tiresome.

You haven't got a single rune yet. I would concentrate first on getting the spells which are useful for doing the two Lair branches. You will have plenty of time later to prepare for 15 runes.

First, Ozocubu's Armour. For MP-efficient fighting, you can use Battlesphere plus some lvl 1 spell like Flame Tongue or Magic Dart if you find it (sandblast can be annoying to use because of stones). Vile clutch is good as well. Swiftness to help in escapes.

OoD and Passwall are also very good. You could also learn Lehudib's Crystal Spear and get an awesome Spellforged Servitor. You're going to run out of spell levels though...
If you're aiming for 15 runes it is important to think about which spells you want - in the endgame I never have enough spell slots. OTOH, if you're careful not to memorise unnecessary spells (which you have been so far) you'll have enough amnesia scrolls.
I don't think there's one particular spell set that's "better" than all the others.
For xp efficiency, it might be wise to delay fire spells until all your secondary skills are at least 15.

You have enough awesome spells. As long as you stick to the pattern of {Learn awesome spell -> Train magic until spell can be used reliably -> Train non-magic skills to make sure it doesn't suck -> repeat}, you'll be fine.
As bel said, don't think too far ahead. It's good to know you want to learn shatter, but you shouldn't train earth just because you'll want shatter at some point. Now that you've surpassed ###### spell power, I'd even advice against training earth magic for increased spell power - after ###### the spellpower is hit with a stepdown. Instead, I think it's optimal to train for specific spells. Your next spell should probably be OoD, or Vile Clutch (both of which are already castable).
You have good fighting, evocations, dodging. In addition to training more of these, you could consider getting some stealth & shield skill. (But for shield skill, I also think it's best to train for a specific shield, and train 100% shields with a shield target of 4.4 or 15))

An average 3-rune game generates 14 amnesia scrolls. That number is more than enough to forget any spell you would like to forget. Do not worry about spell slots.

I would generally not bother with OoD when you have Iron Shot. With Vehumet, you get 5 range Iron Shot, which is good enough. However, if you want even longer OoD range, you can learn it.

Learnig a second school of elemental magic is almost never worths it, as all of them has the same purpose: turn your mana to damage. It is especially pointless with earth, since it does good unresistible damage and has the best level 9 spell for 15 runes.

Learn fighting/dodging, summoning, necromancy, charms, evocations or even hexes instead. Bring a cheap but good melee weapon to min delay, like demon whip. There are plenty of better options.

I'd actually have recommended using the staff of earth as a melee weapon, except you already trained 12 m&f skill. For the rest I agree with sanka.

Ditch the robes, start pumping armour skill, get into ring or troll armour - and look for something even better (plate, other dragon scales). Don't try to cast the super high level spells until you've got armour and fighting trained up decently. You also need to bring up your strength. Yes, I know I see you're aiming for a caster, and that's fine - but those higher level spells are more useful when you have the durability to safely deliver them. If you find a specific encounter where they would make the difference of killing something (or not) you can always temporarily reconfigure your body armour just to unleash certain spells. Once you get your armour sorted out, earth is the best choice for a gargoyle, especially since you have a staff of earth. The recommendation to use the staff of earth as your primary weapon is a pretty good one, even though you have maces trained up. Until your strength is higher, the staff will be better overall, and late game, it will still be a useful item so training staves a little bit won't hurt you either way. Axes are better than maces later on also, so that's another reason to not bother training maces a whole heck of a lot early on. You have it high enough to use it to handle situations where it is the best option, but that doesn't mean you need to keep pushing it farther. If you want a secondary school past earth, the next best ones for gargoyles is fire, then air. The spells you want are iron shot or crystal spear, shatter (with brilliance potions), ignition, deflect missiles and aura of abjuration. If you train necromancy, it's powerful but TSO is a better option than Mak later on (although you can make both work). I'd advise not training necromancy for a gargoyle since you have innate torment resistance, and Zin/TSO won't let you use necromancy. You're better off increasing invocations and evocations if you are feeling flush on xp for skills. Aim for 15 for fighting & armour first, then bring up your spells a bit more, finishing with invocations and/or evocations. Until you can cast those higher level spells, just cast the lower level ones (sand blast, LRD, flame tongue, sticky flames, maybe even fireball). Orb of destruction is good, but will require a heavier investment in conjurations which isn't as good as pure earth/fire & air later on. After shatter, if you have the xp to increase other spell schools vastly, the best spells are Ignition, firestorm and tornado.
