I entered a trove where the loot was behind translucent rock walls and some wands of digging were provided. Unfortunately, my character had sacrificed artifice to Ru.

(In retrospect, I could have checked whether I had passwall in my library; as a melee troll with bottomed-out int and no casting skills, it might have worked via brilliance anyway).

It's kind of cruel though to give some nice potions/scrolls for nothing.
We need to change the trove to require joining Ru and sacrificing artifice to enter it

Troves are very inconsistent right now. Octopodes don't get armour troves because its too easy to use them. So yeah, in a couple years when Trove overhaul is due this is likely going to be corrected one way or another.

No, it was not deliberate design. I made this trove back when every character was allowed to zap wands, and back when digging charges were not nearly as limited or valuable. I have requested several times that this trove destination be removed, but with no luck.

What I had I mind was that sacrificing artifice is supposed to stop you from using wands of digging to get loot that requires digging. So in that sense it is deliberate design, unless the person who implemented sacrifice artifice didn't realize that there are vaults which require digging to get loot (but maybe they didn't, how could I know).

Whether it's fair or not is another question...
