Best/Worst Artifacts

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

I have had a string of bad luck with armour acquirement lately. Like, cripplingly awful stuff, -4 boots with damage penalties and the like.

On the other hand, I just found the Sword of Power on the floor of Lair:8, and it's already at +11/+11, so... mustn't grumble eh :)

A crude robe. It got my DEWz hopes up for a second...

O - the cursed -5 robe of Misfortune (worn) {-CAST MUT+ *TELE EV-4 Str-2 Dex-2 Int-2 Stlth-- Curse}
(You took it off an orc on level 10 of the Dungeon)

It affects your evasion (-4).
It affects your strength (-2).
It affects your intelligence (-2).
It affects your dexterity (-2).
It prevents spellcasting.
It causes teleportation.
It may recurse itself.
It makes you much less stealthy.
It glows with mutagenic radiation.
It has a curse placed upon it.

Must have been hard to kill that orc with the really strong robe.

You do know how the modifiers on that thing are calculated, right? Watch what happens when you read-ID a scroll of torment, for instance...

The +7, +8 trident of Responsibility {flame, rElec}

A fairly nice D:7 find. But really, I just like it because when I first equipped it I thought, "Only YOU can prevent forest fires."

Yup.

It wasn't what eventually killed me, but it did lead to at least one hairy Death Yak herd-related moment ;)

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

This is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever found at D:4, especially since I'm a VpEn:

As you read the scroll labeled KLYSAO CODAN, it crumbles to dust.
Use on which item? (\ to view known items) (? for menu, Esc to quit)
y - the +1,+12 dagger of Unreason (weapon) {stab, *Rage +Blink rElec Str+3}
_It was a scroll of identify.

Controlled blink, rElec, +12?!? Yes, please. Now, off to go get myself killed by a kobold demonologist.

Edit: Or get ambushed by an orc priest, orc warrior,and an ogre. Either way, I feel sorry for whoever has to put up with these bones.

K - the +1 pair of gloves of Lisaf (worn) {rF++ rC++ MR}

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

From my most recent game, which was a few weeks back since said death was my best character yet. Unfortunately, the turn summary doesn't list all of the randart stats. I am sad, because otherwise I could add a lot more here.

The Good

the +1 helmet of Indemnity {rC+ Dam+3 Stlth++}
the +8 crystal plate mail of Hide-and-Seek {god gift, rC++ MR} - Thanks Oka!

The Bad

the cursed -5 leather armour of Plasticity {rF+ Str-4 Stlth+ Curse}
the ring of Harmony {Dex-3}

The Weird

the -3,+0 dagger of Anxiety {holy, rPois}
the +3 splint mail of the Butterfly {Int+2}
the +6 chain mail of Hairiness {rC++ Str+1}
the halberd of Slow Death {god gift, chop, rN+ MR}

EDIT:

  Code:
 E - the +10,+12 short sword of Invincibility {drain, MUT+ +Lev rElec SInv}
   (You found it on level 1 of the Lair of Beasts)

   A truly terrible weapon, it drains the life of those it strikes.

   It insulates you from electricity.
   It enhances your eyesight.
   It lets you levitate.
   It glows with mutagenic radiation.

Well it has mut but who cares??? :P I'd like to use it on a kobold and see what freak of nature he'd become.

EDIT 2:

Started another melee mummy, this was in a room next to the Temple.

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

in a shop on D:24
the +6 gold dragon armour "Siramni" {rElec rPois rF+ rC+ SInv} (15405 gp)

It's going to take a while to find all that gold.

Come on, dude, that's lame. :P

a - [D:6] the +16 gold dragon armour "Goxom" {rElec rPois rF+ rC+} (18850 gold)

This on my DDCK of Elyvilon. (should I be ashamed? DD of Xom is too much even for me) Pack GDA and SDA together with 5 bonus AC.
I so feel like crying.

Any bets if I can acquire and find the gold together? I'm an optimist by nature so I'll say yes. :)

I'm an XL 11 DD"He" with two wands of teleportation and 7 scrolls of teleportation and a curemut potion. Basically nothing (except really, really, really bad luck in the Abyss) Xom can throw at me will be dangerous, much less lethal.

i'm guessing it was a random game? i'm playing random games lately, and so far my only rule is i'll skip xom games. it didn't even occur to me until now, i think i'd just naturally do it if it ever came up.

don't dismiss xom, you can still get a nice vortex who'll send you to the abyss in a couple of turns.

Yeah, the DDCK is on hyperelynae and I am a big fan of Elyvilon, plus I found her on D:3 so it was a natural choice. I kinda prefer Elyvilon healing style to Makhleb healing style to be honest (more flexible).

I found one that's neither fantastic nor terrible, but it has an awesome name:

the +0 cloak of Idealism {+Lev Str-3 Int+4}
You always have your head in the clouds (+Lev), never do anything practical (Str-3), but are pretty smart nonetheless (Int+4).

Also falling into the "awesome names" category:

the cursed blowgun of Misery {speed, MUT rC+ SInv}
It gets bonus points because I wield-ID'd it in a Ziggurat with no remove curse scrolls.

Jellybean anyone?
  Code:
B - the broad axe "Jellybane" {drain, rF+ Dex-4 Int-2}
No, I thought not.

And also slightly amusing, given that it was in the vaults at the bottom of slime:
  Code:
 A - the amulet of Aparius {rCorr Str+4 Dex-1}

Which would have been useful if it had shown up a few turns before the point where you no longer need rCorr.
Although not quite as useful as the rMut amulet, which was also in that vault, would have been when the shining eye caught me with only 3MP left...

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

the +2,+13 lajatang "Ugebboel" (weapon) {god gift, freeze, +Rage +Lev rPois SInv}

It's a bit ironic that the character is worshipping Trog and 3 rings I've identified so far are levitation, poison resistance and - you've guessed it - see invisible :lol:

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

I just found a pretty sweet randart spellbook in a Wizlab:
Nikola's Handbook of Destructive Flight
a - Shock
b - Repel Missiles
c - Swiftness
d - Mephitic Cloud
e - Insulation
f - Lightning Bolt
g - Silence
h - Conjure Ball Lightning

Mostly I just like it for the awesome name.

The spellbook next to it had just about every other air spell with Flight, Airstrike, and Tornado (and repel missiles, mephitic cloud, insulation, Lightning Bolt, and Silence again).

Both would help me a lot...if I had any plans to ever use air magic.

Thank Oka!

the -5 pair of gloves of Servitude (worn) {god gift, rPois Dex+4}

On an MdFi, that rely mostly on AC and just after I've finished to clear the hive and the lair without RP.

Re: Best/Worst Artifacts

The +1 +6 Mace of the Egg(poison, blink, +2 strength), on a DEIE.
The +0 +12 Glaive of Prune, funny title but lousy.
The +3 +6 Dagger of the Spriggan's dismay (Elec. stealth+ +3 strength), my sneaky, stabby spriggan abyssal knight was just crying in dismay when he found that one.
What made you happy today?
