move monk's piety thing to a species

move monk's piety thing to a species

like how about Ba or HO, that would be appropriate for their themes. monk is like a much worse gladiator that gets a bonus upon worshipping a god; the former part is not interesting so why dedicate a background to it?
putting the piety bonus on a race also makes it applicable to a lot more gods - nobody's going to want a god like sif or vehumet on Mo but they might do it on BaFE! it'd also let a Be start with Trog's Hand and an AK start with Bend Space

  Code:
<Leszczynek> !lg * !boring s=crace v>0.21
<Sequell> 550384 games for * (recent !boring v>0.21): 62420x Demonspawn, 52623x Minotaur, 38038x Octopode, 35679x Gnoll, 34550x Gargoyle, 33673x Deep Elf, 30128x Draconian, 26422x Hill Orc, 24015x Formicid, 20363x Spriggan, 17745x Troll, 17519x Vine Stalker, 15675x Mummy, 15518x Merfolk, 13810x Human, 12802x Naga, 12315x Tengu, 11383x Ogre, 10586x Centaur, 9914x Vampire, 8902x Ghoul, 8801x Felid, 8723x Kobold, 8234x Deep Dwarf, 7393x Demigod, 6578x Barachi, 6568x Halfling, 7x High Elf

Maybe it would increase the popularity of Barachi who doesn't seem to be particularly enjoyable at the moment, if we use number of games as measurement.

Because a background in DCSS is supposed to be a starting package that gradually loses its impact on the game, while species choice is supposed to have long-lasting repercussions on your game. Which of these two things do you think a one-time gift of 2* piety is?

Backgrounds being a starting package is another strike against having the piety bonus on Mo, since it does literally nothing at the start.
As far as I am aware, there is no rule saying that every species feature has to have long-lasting repercussions. There are already many that don't: MP aptitude and flat +1 AC/stealth/etc bonuses. These have about as much late-game impact as the extra god gift or two you'll get from a piety bonus with Okawaru/Trog/Nemelex.

Huh that's a really good point. So it's a gimmick that does nothing for most of early Dungeon, then does a little something that quickly becomes irrelevant... I'm not sure that's really worth keeping
