Will scroll of fear affect all elves and give me possibility to teleport out? Or will they resist fear with their high magic resist? Any other ideas?

I would try to escape to the corridor in south with the two scrolls of blinking.

If you survive, get out of Elf and come back when you have done D:15, have the Lair runes from Shoals and Snake and have done Vaults: 1 - 4.

Are you serious?
This is the second post in two days with a char almost dead.

If you aren't trollling but you're seriously asking for help my first two advices are:

* try to identify earlier dangerous situation. Crawl is a game where most of fights end without big damage and very few with going from 100% to dead in a couple of turns. This is actually very difficult and require a lot of game knowledge so it's normal to not being able to foresee very well in new situations and so on. Approach every new enemy/area/whatever more carefully

* Try to ask for help earlier. With chars so screwed there's very little to do, a lot of luck is required.

My 2cents for this situation:

?Blink NW near the door.
?fog
!HW if the master Archer or the death mage are in LOS.
? teleport

Maybe move behind the door after !HW or ?teleport but there could be an annihilator or whatever able to one shot you .

Other desperate try would be to ?blink next the three elves down so you aren't hellfired to death and then ?blink again out the fuck away. Plus ?fog and !haste after the second blink to be extra sure.

If earth elemental aren't hellfire immune (can't check right now) you may blink south next one them.


Oh next time don't enter elf before clearing at least 1 lair branch (not slimes!) And vaults, because it is extremely dangerous.

I would take the 2 blinks south too. It's going to be pretty dicey whether you get zapped after the first one. If you do manage to get some space, pop fog from the scroll, quaff healing pot if you have time just to shore up a notch, but generally head for the stairs asap. Nago also has some good, more technical details you might consider there. It's the same basic idea - blink and conceal, and get out whichever way looks fastest after getting somewhere with a shade less exposure.

Teleporting in Elf, especially Elf 3, is always a bit risky and it looks like you had an awfully bad break. Your resists are great but still at 25 hp, it's going to be a matter of luck getting out of there.

Generally though, you probably should have quit Elf after finding all those very nice shops (at the latest) and well before getting into the big vault. But given this was a "bad teleport" problem -- that's saying, if you had some ideal choice. The previous posts are right though, you're pretty out of depth in Elf. It's not so much about your levels to me, as your gear and potential. You have okay defense and heals on kills, but I don't see anything to reliably disable or destroy the tougher of the elves fast. The spear is okay for as far as untrained backup weapons go, but you'd need the training to make it super reliable. LRD will catch them in some situations and Stone Arrow is sorta okay for typical grunts (if they don't dodge it too often). But there's nothing to really shut down the bigger fish quickly when you have to face more than one or two at a time. I'd want things like poison (Mephitic Cloud or Venom Bolt for casting), elemental or maybe drain-branded weapons with some training for backup (or even a venom branded short blade would have impact over time for every hit), and more AOE (iceblast, clouds) /summoning evocables to bomb or tie up problem enemies. You have Wand of Clouds but at 0 Evocations training, you should be happy to even get a small poison burst out of it -- it's much better (fire, ice, drain more often) with more Evocations. You also are in *slow armor, and I imagine that causes some added trouble when you do get hit, which with them casting AOE spells or boosted ranged weaponry you eventually will.

Don't worry about making a few shocking mistakes when you're getting started. There are a lot of branches in the game and it's easy not to anticipate stuff a few times. Just try to learn what does/doesn't work and what's around to prepare for, and it'll get better.

Oh, if you haven't, you might consider reading some Wiki pages explaining the branch challenges too. The wiki is sometimes outdated and not always perfect for advice/clarity, but it does have a lot of general help.

I did it! Blinking near 3 elves and blinking again, and using scroll of smoke did the trick! :D thanks for all advices, I will try to avoid Elven Halls this early in the game next time

I feel like zdzichorowerzysta is setting up elaborate deathtraps for his characters, asking the forum to save his character from said death trap, taking all of the solutions given, then setting up new elaborate deathtraps with none of those options available.

Advises for future games:
use LRD vs spriggans
don't wear scarf of rF+/rC+ when you already have rF++/rC++, a +0 cloak is better
don't wear +0 boots with Int+2 when you can have +2 boots of nothing
don't wear +1 gloves when you can enchant to +2
don't stay in ring mail when you have 16 levels in Armour, Str 27 and use tab instead of magic
don't use body armour with *Slow unless it is somehting like +12 CPA
don't use +2 ring mail when you have 6 scrolls of enchant armour
don't train magic schools when all corresponding spells are already at 1% failure
forget about tab until you win a game
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS

To me after this new screenshot he looks more like a new player who is decently good, so he ends to play carelessly and end in hilariously bad situations against new monsters\situation.

Again: stop to play without caution against new monsters. Lot of them have weird unique gimmick which can screw you extremely fast if you don't cope accordingly.
As VAF said, for example, against those Spriggans you could have survived if you went in any of those corridors and LRD them (they have very high EV, very low HP and AC so they die very fast to LRD).

When you spot a new monster x-v him to check his stats and his special powers. You may also check it on http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/bots . It isn't updated at very last versions but provides some extra info in comparison of in game help.

Potions of healing, agility, and haste are all good... But they would have been much better many HP earlier.

Honestly, I don't see you getting out of this one.

Personally, I really like the scarf of resistance unless my AC is really feeling weak... Although it's true yours isn't so wonderful for all you're up against here. By the way, try not to get in fights in wide open spaces (particularly with multiple fast enemies like spriggans or killer bees), if it isn't obvious. One-tile width corridors are usually your friends. (One major exception to the rule can be green slimes, which may combine themselves into a terrible, hard-hitting giant mass if you don't leave room for them to gather around you separately.)

I've successfully made one step to south-east, and elephant attacked me, but my shield blocked it's attack. Turns out that they were guarding axe of Trog, and that's why they rage so much.
To my left there is one spriggan, and he is accurate, I can only step south pretty much, so, probably next turn will be dead; but we will see

edit: yeah, made 2 more steps south and then spriggan hit me with rapier for 26 or something, so rip. Let's try new run lol

In all these screenshots you have max makhleb piety. Train some invocations way earlier to get usable demons (if you survive this by some miracle, get some invocations!). A few greater demons *summoned early in the fight* will help you solve almost any problem until extended.

In general, if you're going to use potions, etc, do it before the fight starts. Being hasted at 100% health is much, much better than being hasted at 50% health.

When you hit 50% health, consider it a dire emergency (if the fight got you there, it can get you to 0) and it's time to escape unless you *know* the fight is all but won.

I spent a long time dying in similar situations, learning to assess threats in Crawl is hard partly because there are so many monsters to learn. Hell, I still die in similar situations.

If you just can't stop tabstorming, try this one in the init file to stop your tabbing when you get low on hp, the 80 stands for 80% of your max hp, adjust to your taste.

autofight_stop = 80

That one did wonders for me, it's not good play at all to rely on it, but sometimes having the game take tab away in 'real' fights and make you get your brain out is actually what you need to win games. I even kept the thing on in my sub 2hr speed run, abet turned way down.

Honestly I wouldn't even consider trolling to be a possibility; if someone is actually playing characters to elven halls just to take a screenshot and ask for advice they're spending way more time than you are in writing up some advice. Most learning players have a lot of these sorts of deaths on their way to developing the good habits that finally prevent it.

I think you've already gotten most of the good advice I could offer, but I wanted to add one bit: Most of these screenshots are coming way, way too late. Especially that caster next to a kraken with 3 health, THREE! In crawl having 50% of your health is an <emergency>. Don't keep struggling through combat when you're at half health; that's the time to start thinking about your scrolls of fear, teleport, etc. Blinking is the strongest, but you'll also likely only find a few for your whole game. Nago mentioned the 50% hp thing, but it is so crucial I thought it deserved a full paragraph :)

I tend to be lazy and will frequently be at 20% health vs a 10% health monster and just roll the dice on winning the fight; let's say I'm a 90% favorite to win the fight. Even just a 10% chance of losing, if it happens 10 times per game, results in a 65% chance that character will die. If you want to have a good chance of winning, you can't risk a 90% chance of winning fights; you have to be sure. Keeping your health > 50% is usually how that's done, although there are still cases where a lich with crystal spear might get a good roll and hit for 80-100 damage, which depending on circumstances, can be >50% your health.

To follow up on this, if you want advice on how to get out of a situation where you are in the <50% emergency-health zone, no-one will fault you if you ask for advice on the forums when you get to that point, rather than just posting the all-but-hopeless situations with a small chance of escape, you can get advice on how to *efficently* extract yourself from bad positions (so you can do so more frequently as needed), and learn how to do it for yourself in the future, and also get more accurate advice on how to avoid the situations in the first place.
