CIP: BaTm^Chei - Shaft troubles

Fell through a shaft 6 -> 8 next to a manticore, a hippogriff, and a bear. Ouch. I teleported to safety and got lucky with an unidentified scroll of magic mapping, so I'm pretty close to escaping at least this level.

But now there's a centaur and a one or more electric eels standing between me and the only set of stairs. I feel like a good player would be able to handle this but I'm not a good player. Since I'm not yet next to death, there's a decent number of options. Any tips?

i don't see a 100% safe option, but i think i'd settle for hopping west, which gets you away from the eel but forces a fight with the centaur. then temporal distortion to get it into melee, and beat it up with the aid of a snake or two. if you know there are other monsters in that area this becomes a much worse idea, and it's probably better to hop straight northeast to try to get away (remember you can swim while the centaur has to take a detour). if nothing else works, zapping random effects as a last ditch effort could either save you or kill you.

Read unknown scrolls earlier next time, dying with a stack of blinking, fear or acquirement would be very weird

Psyche is to the west, and there are electric eels all over place. Ultimately I need to get to the stairs to the NE, so I'm going to have to get past those eels at some point. I'm just not sure how.

ouch. well, you can try to go northeast and loop around to avoid the eel on the current screen, it can't follow you over the bridge. you're probably likely to die while walking away but there's a chance. if there are more eels that way i guess random effects or reading scrolls blindly are your outs.

Thanks for the advice, but it looks like I was dead no matter what. There were just too many eels. This floor layout seems impossible if you get shafted, at least if you're not a great player.

I feel like downstairs was an option not considered. Step from time if you get too much trouble on the Boo there. Close the door so the centail has to close the gap. Rando wand would probably taken care of 1 eel or killed you via noise or haste.
