Sometimes, there's junk under plants. This time, there's an absolute treasure. (This is on D:4 btw.)

(Actually, at the moment, it provides the exact same AC as my +2 robe, as I'm a centaur, and it does reduce my EV a bit, but still. I'm not going to argue with rPois and decentish AC for a negligible penalty.)

That's a common variant of the Yiuf vault. It depicts him at an advanced stage of madness, when his hammer collection has grown to overspill his hut.

Now I can see the reason for its inhabitant being crazy. It would be really bizarre to find a hammer growing upwards from the place where there seemed to be a tree a few weeks ago.

Although hammers are not awesome weapons, when this happen it's great for finding a branded hammer for the early game. Or getting stuck with Distortion. But when was anything in Crawl perfectly safe?

Yesterday, playing a SpEn, I found an unidentified book lying on the ground. Went up to it, picked it up...book of Maledictions.

I guess he could loan the spare copy out or something, but you'd have thought he'd at least recognize it.

(seriously, is this a bug or standard behavior?

Why do I keep finding early dragon armor on these CeGls? :/

Well, forget skirmishing. This guy's going to become a cataphract :D

EDIT: Well, he then died to a player ghost, and not a very strong one...

If you've got a scroll of tele you can use that then go back up the stairs.
Or there could be a hidden door.

KoboldLord wrote:So, uh. Trove on D15, demanding 6 scrolls of blinking. I have it, my whole stash of them, but I'm thinking it'll be worth it for the loot. I have alternative escape options, if I need them, and I picked up blurry vision 1 anyway, so the scrolls aren't 100% reliable.

Inside, I find the wand version, which has a good number of wands and some miscellaneous scrolls. Included amongst the wands are SIX wands of hasting.

Six. Wands. Of. Hasting.

I guess I won't need to grind charms much this game?

It's easy enough to explain, mind you. Trove loot is generated by acquirement code, which leans heavily toward the three good wands, hasting, healing, and teleportation. I had already identified healing and teleportation, so six of the seven wands in the trove ended up being the missing one of the three.

It's still quite a fascinating sight, all six of those wands sitting in my inventory.

Just had the same encounter in a trove: Only unidentified staffs was fire, poison and cold and i had ice magic 18, poison magic 0 and fire magic 0.

So voila, got 5 staffs of cold :D

Btw., the trove wanted Geryons horn as the price. If I had forgotten to blow it in the vestibule, would I now be prevented from going to hell?

Edit: Actually I see that I still have the horn in my inventory. Guess there is a special case for this in the code. So in other words, cheapest entry fee in the world 8-)

I imagine you probably know that the swastika didn't have any negative associations until after the Nazis adopted it. Same thing with the pentagram. /Fun fact yay

Also That Yiuf vault mentioned earlier is my favorite vault ever along with the Mace of Brilliance as my fav fixedart. When the trees are all replaced with hammers you have like a 99.9% chance of getting MoB. (Probably). It was my first fixedart ever and I love the halo it got recently.

As for odd things in the dungeon lately, I turned a corner to find Prince Ribbit, Menkaure, Dowan and Duvessa lining up in a corridor for me.
So I was like "ZAP" bolt of fire
