CIP: FeAE^Usk, deity-assisted OHKO stabbing
I've tried to get a felid of Uskayaw[1] going a couple of times before, but I didn't really get anywhere until this character. My hypothesis was that Usk's monster confusion (active power at **) and mass paralysis (passive at ***, lasts 10-40 auts, piety and monster HD dependent) could help a felid with tier 1 stabby claws.
The monster confusion from Line Pass (**) is so short lived, at least at low Invo, that it's barely useful for stabbing purposes; any disabling hex will perform better. I managed to gain a handful of confusion stabs from it before finding Confusing Touch after which I've never used Line Pass again. Although, it could also be used to "blink" over adjacent monsters to improve positioning or facilitate an escape.
Because fighting a multitude of monsters in a short period of time increases piety higher, it wasn't after gaining enough robustness from Statue Form that I was starting to get Solo Time (***) paralysis stabs frequently. Uskayaw rewards pretty "non-optimal" positioning to say at least. Quite a many dangerous dudes have met their end OHKO'd while paralyzed: some uniques, juggernauts, caustic shrikes, many others.
I've gotten to ***** piety a number of times, but only used Grand Finale once. It guarantees killing any single monster in LOS, but drops your piety back to *, so you'll lose the pseudo-cleaving from Pain Bond (****). The optimal way to use Grand Finale seems to be when few monsters are standing but one is especially dangerous.
Uskayaw is quite fun to play and a nice change for me after (too) numerous Oka and Ash worshipers. Not a great early-game god, at least for a frail character, but becomes strong and very tab-friendly in mid-game.
I've been pondering over whether to switch the amulet from guardian spirit to faith. +25% piety gain would be a big damage buff, but felids have the most to gain from Spirit. What do?
