Why do plants have AC?

Are they subtly wearing armor?

Have you ever tried chopping down a sprawling, impassable bush with a dagger?

But really, i'm roleplaying a guy who's a hero, wielding a a wonderfully realistic double sword with get this, ***TWO BLADES***, cutting down man-eating snakes in 3-5 hits, but a plant, whooaaahhh there champ take you time need 20+ hit attempts to cut this thing down.

Don't tread on my realism.

Re: Why do plants have AC?

if they didn't have ac, they'd be toadstools.

if they're going to be effective 'temporary terrain' (something that can block enemies for at least a few turns during fights in lair), they need to have enough defenses to do that. doesn't really matter if it's ac or more hp or whatever.

the player should rarely, if ever, have to destroy plants; i suspect the root* problem here is bad vaults

Re: Why do plants have AC?

You have 16 skill levels in long blades and a sword made for killing. Not 16 levels in hedge removal and gardening implements. *Immersion intact*

Personally I like the idea of a plate-armored badass needing to take a some time to remove thick shrubbery. Seems pretty realistic actually. I don't think knights decked out in armor and wielding giant maces or bastard swords were very efficient at removing dense undergrowth.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oas2l8MnyC0 indeed, they required help.

Make Invo count as Gardening, because it's important for PlantGod and good Ocklob grouth.

My #1 most common reason for chopping down plants is when I'm using ranged weapons and miss my target so the arrow/javelin/etc ends up under a bush.

FR: make projectiles land next to plants instead of underneath them when possible.

Re: Why do plants have AC?

Your javelin may miss that STONE FUCKING GIANT but it will never miss a toadstool behind it. These must be huge. Or you're actually sliding the javelin on the ground between the giant's legs. That makes sense.

Also you can't fly over bushes. They must be huge too.

Re: Why do plants have AC?

But you can shoot arrows over small bushes, there's a couple centaur vaults that depend on that behavior.

You can shoot through bushes if you follow Fedhas. Those vaults are all Fedhas altar vaults, IIRC.

Pretty sure i saw a centaur in the middle of 8 small bushes in early dungeon without an altar this week-end.

Re: Why do plants have AC?

baidu3 is correct. as long as you aren't aiming *at* a bush, you can fire through it. this works for projectiles and many spells (notably, not fireball).

in practice, it basically only comes up in weird centaur vaults.
