More unrandarts

Only one of the following rings can be equipped at the same time:

Ring of colossus: Str+20, Dex is set to 1, immunity to losing Dex, AC +8 if used as left ring, slay +5 if used as right ring, no to-hit penalty from body armour, large size

Ring of spider: Dex+20, Int is set to 1, immunity to losing Int, EV +8 if used as left ring, slay +5 if used as right ring, small size

Ring of nerd: Int+20, Str is set to 1, immunity to losing Str, wizardry if used as left ring, archmagi if used as right ring, normal size

Possible uses.
Found ring of colossus? Time to equip that +8 plate armour you found as DEWz and become a hybrid
Found ring of spider? Time to equip that heavy/middle armour to get crazy AC/EV
Found ring of nerd? Time to get some spells as Tr in robe, you can have Iron Shot and decent EV pretty early
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS

I wanted to give player control of secondary effects depending on slot used. For example, melee characters will put ring of colossus into slot for slaying while casters will put it into slot for AC+8.

Why? It adds flexibility IMHO. First you can use ring of nerd for wizardry, later switch to archmagi.

=R makes the problem worse

everytime you want to use one of these rings you have to remember which slot you have to put it on (because they're unrandarts, so the player will likely not have the effects memorized), THEN you have to put the ring on the slot (and god forbid the slot you want to put it on already has a !R or =R ring) THEN if the ring you removed was something you wanted to keep you have to put it on the other slot.

basically: you have a ring of +1 slaying on your left hand, a ring of +10 slaying rf+++ rc+++ rn+++ (with =R) on your right hand, you want to put one of these unrandart rings on your right hand. work out the sequence of keypresses required to put on both the unrandart and the =R ring on. this is a ui nightmare

even worse, if you already have the ring on and you want to swap its effect you have to remove it and put it on again

and just to make things clear, these ring concepts suck anyway both from a design perspective and a coding perspective

That reminds me about first world problems ;)
Probably the rings should have *Curse to always recurse them on equip, they are not supposed to be used as swaps.
If you want to use the proposed ring as left one, you take off left ring and then put the proposed ring on, after that you take a look at what rings you have for the other slot and put it on too, it's that simple.

If they're not supposed to be swaps anyway, could make 6 rings instead of 3. Or randomize the weighting between e.g. AC and slaying, similarly to what is done for the faery dragon armour.

Variations on a theme:

Ring of the Colossus: STR +8, DEX -5, HP+15, immunity to constriction, you can throw large rocks
Ring of the Spider: DEX +8, STR -5, you can shoot webs at the cost of breath (range: 4)
Ring of the Conjuror: INT +8, HP -15, MP regen+++

This is much more reasonable than the original proposal. I like it. :)
