Would you use this?

Would you use this hypothetical artifact on a melee brute?

It has 37+ AC and resists, which prevent being easily killed.

Re: Would you use this?

Unless it was very recently changed, you can "easily" suppress *Rage by "just" keeping your satiation at sufficiently low levels. (Yes this is terrible and should not be possible.)

Or wear stasis.

In any event, going berserk occasionally is much easier to swallow if your body armor is by itself giving you +37 AC with 0 training, nearly Chei-level stat boosts, and a ton of resistances to boot.

Teleportation is a nice fallback, for sure, but there are other ways to deal with bad situations, and having +37 AC with 0 training, nearly Chei-level stat boosts, and resists will have a pretty remarkable effect in terms of preventing bad situations.

Not to mention you don't even have to use Chei.

Yeah I'd take this, I'd love this, and I'd ride it to victory because if you die while wearing this you don't deserve to win.

Yeah, I meant (roughly) same level of boost as Chei gives. (Edited post to clarify.)

In other news, Maxwell's patent armour is also pretty damn good for a lot of characters.

Petition for this item to be the subject of a new sprint, on account of its too awesome not to be in the game but being in the main game would be ridiculously OP, to be blunt.

I would probably swap for a non *Rage-Tele armor at some point, but it'd be really late in the game. Like Hells or Pan late. Where hellfire+torment+smiting become commonplace.

Maxwell's does not have *Rage.
-Tele and *Rage are the most dangerous things in the whole game, both prevent you from reading a scroll of blinking.

So? All those bonuses can be useless when you die.
If I remember correct, I died to some fiend in Elf 3. With any other armour I would just read a scroll of blinking.
Scroll of blinking makes death impossible unless you have -Tele or are berserking and this armour has both.

If you die on elf 3 wearing that armor, you fucked up at some point in positioning/threat assessment. It's not the armor's fault that you got yourself into a situation so bad that you needed to blink despite having +23 crystal plate, huge stats, and huge slaying.

Of course I agree. My point is exactly that, I am more likely to die in that armour than in +5 plate because the latter does not kill me for mistakes.

Re: Would you use this?

But it's a lot harder to make a mistake in this armour. And you can still die in +5 plate. (P_death if mistake in armour a)*(P_mistake in armour a) < (P_death if mistake in armour b)*(P_mistake in armour b), where a is the supergood -TELE and b is the uberdumb plate. Although mistakes are more deadly, there are less of them. It's statistics - this uber-TELE could still be good.

No, I cannot die in +5 plate (or any other armour, even a -2 robe) as long as I have at least one scroll of blinking.

Edit. My current character is DgTm with Blade Hands and +6 MDA and Dragon Form with some very good rings, one of them has -Tele. I felt OP until I had a row of unlucky rolls in a single turn and needed to blink and that 0.5 delay was very bad. After that I dropped the ring and never looked back. With -Tele body armour I would probably die. Some monsters have potential to deal 30-50% player HP damage in a single turn.

You are the kid if you put 450 hp in the same category with other bonuses.
If the armour was a robe which gave nothing but +100 HP, I would use it.

Edit. Also you missed my point. For example, slaying is obviously useless on melee character when you died to ranged attack, AC is almost useless vs LCS, Iron shot and Orb of Fire.
