Old versions of Crawl?

If it doesn't fit anywhere else, it belongs here. Also, come here if you just need to get hammered.

Re: Old versions of Crawl?

Then check out these branches for all DCSS versions: https://github.com/crawl/crawl/branches ... tone_soup-

For crawl, see https://github.com/crawl/crawl-ancient/branches

Most of them don't compile cleanly on a modern system, but I've updated 4.00b26 so it compiles on OSX/Linux here: https://github.com/alexjurkiewicz/crawl-4.0b26

The changes are pretty minimum and I suspect they would be similar for earlier versions too.

Re: Old versions of Crawl?

The link you want to give people is probably the releases folder, which is where we link to from the Download page for past versions.

Also, regarding very old releases, they will probably not compile properly with modern compilers/systems for versions say from 0.10 and before.

Edit: Actually, a better URL: https://sourceforge.net/projects/crawl- ... ne%20Soup/

Has downloads for windows+osx for every version going back to 0.1 (including the subversions)! As a bonus, the first 0.1 release has a DOS build you can use...

Our releases folder is missing many of the windows builds. Looks like we need to update it with these old files on sourceforge, since we'd like to stop using sourceforge.

Yeah, I looked there and saw the really old versions were missing, leading to this thread.

Also: nearly DC:SS's tenth birthday! Wow! All grown up!

Re: Old versions of Crawl?

Sourceforge not as good as Github?

Also, since we're talking about compiling: is there some kind of super easy guide to compiling for people who don't get how coding works?

http://git.develz.org/?p=crawl.git;a=bl ... NSTALL.txt

These instructions are pretty straightforward. If you follow them exactly, you should wind up with a working build of DCSS.

They can be summarized in the abstract as:
1) Ensure you have a development environment setup.
2) Clone the git repository.
3) Run make (or other system appropriate build tool) from within the source directory to build the binary.

Re: Old versions of Crawl?

We haven't used Sourceforge for development for some time. The website is pretty unscrupulous, having changed owners due to financial problems in the past.

If you're on windows and all you want is a build of the latest version, you can download it from our Trunk Builds page. Compilation for trunk versions is only necessary if you're on OS X or Linux, since we don't do automatic builds of those.

IIRC they now do like Softonic and other services, attaching other files and programs to the ones you want to download.

Re: Old versions of Crawl?

For what it's worth, I believe the new owners stopped doing that. The website itself is still kind of crappy.
